Apple Suspends In-Store Sale of iPhone 4S in China Due to Safety Concerns
As we had reported earlier, Apple was forced to cancel the iPhone 4S launch in Beijing today due to unruly crowd.
Reuters now reports that Apple has suspended in-store sale of iPhone 4S in all the five retail stores in the country due to the crowd trouble.
Reuters reports:
The iPhone 4S, which went on sale early Friday, caused a near-riot in one of Apple's Beijing retail stores.

Most of them are probably going to resell with markups. No point to get one otherwise...

I think that most people in China see it as a status symbol. If you can afford to own western goods, you'll be more likely to attract new friends. I now live in Taiwan (not part of China) and I find that status is really important, especially if you are in the public eye. I have to drive a BMW 7 series or higher. I must live in the poshest neighborhood. I cannot argue with anyone in public, even if they are ripping me off! I have to wear expensive watches. This is why I think there was such an outcry over this in China. Buying something when it's new is popular. Buying it after your friend has one is lame. I guess this is the world wide version of "keeping up with the Jones's."Don't get me wrong, I make enough money to make it worth while.
