iPhone Spontaneously Combusts In Moscow
While the entire blogosphere argues over how "hot" the iPad exactly is, the folks at Planet iPhone bring us news about a spontaneous combustion of an iPhone 4 in Moscow, at an Apple service center.
A customer brought the iPhone to the service center after he noticed that his device won't turn on. The service rep tried to hard reset the phone, while the device was connected to an original charger. After several failed attempts, the iPhone began to emit smoke and the back panel became red hot.

so they replaced some parts and gave it back? Not an entirely different phone but an in store refurb of that one?

This is scary since I sleep with my iPhone 4 next to my bed. At the same time it is really low percentage of cases.

I don't know about you, but I would have asked to keep the charred exterior of the old phone along with getting new internals :)

Cant this be fix tho? Just get a new battery, back glass, & new screen? Or is it gone forever?

well that depends on what the damage was, doesnt it?

honestly, i think that its the person's fault somehow :p

In soviet Russia, I phone battery kills you!

The back panel got red hot & they just repaced some parts and gave it back!!? That sounds like a liability that they would never get away with here in the US

Apple was trying to kill the guy.... It wasn't a bad phone.... All the story's u guys heard in the past about idevices blowing up or catching on fire.... Apple is just trying to say that they can get away with murders lol

2 weeks ago while my iphone4 was on the charger, I picked it up and felt it extremely hot. Too hot that I could not bare it in my hand. Immediately I drove to the apple store (5 minutes away) and when the greater asked if I had an appointment, I tod "no" but had him hold on to the phone which he too, thought was too hot. He directed me to the experts. And after analyzing the phone they determined that my phone was out of warranty and did not know what the problem was. Therefore, I was told it would cost me $149 to replace. I told the guy that was helping me, that if the phone exploded that he and Apple would be held responsible.. Immediately a manager agreed to exchange the phone, but closed off by saying that the iPhones do not explode! Obviously I disagree!!!
