Watch Video of How an iPad is Assembled at a Foxconn Factory
Marketplace Shanghai Bureau Chief Rob Schmitz got the rare opportunity to visit Foxconn's factory - Apple's manufacturing partner in China.
He is only the second reporter after ABC's Nightline host Bill Weir, to gain access to the factory where Apple's iPhone, iPad and other products are made.

$14 a day...... ****, i make 20 times that a day and i probably don't work anywhere near as hard as these poor bastards.

14 DOLLARS A DAY??!!Oh man.Very interesting video though

You obviously haven't traveled the world very much."$14 a day" doesn't mean anything unless you put it into the context of the local economy, as well as other benefits received. An average salary for an English-speaking Cambodian working in i.e. a restaurant is $60/month - or $2/day - which they can live off of because they eat free and are provided lodging. I'll bet $14 a day in a complex with gyms and pools would sound pretty damn good to many Cambodians. And apparently it does to many Chinese, or they wouldn't be traveling across the country for an opportunity to work there. So "14 DOLLARS A DAY?!?!" really shouldn't be that surprising.

I can remember in 1981 the Navy Shipyard in the Philippines paying day labors a dollar a day plus box lunch and hundreds would show up each morning for 8-12 jobs.I also remember when I was in Hattie in 1975, that the average mean annual income for a family was only $174 a year.

i know i haven't traveled the world much. i guess they haven't either, b/c if they have seen or know anything about America, they would get (what's the current hourly wage these days ? 8 bucks?). i think i might give up my 6 figures and go move there to work. then i wouldn't have a car note, house mortgage, and a girlfriend to drain my bank account.

Who over paid? I think you over paid to Apple!
-
Hell yeah... It's the math behind that... That's like more than D150 in Gambian money, that country is in Africa.... So to an American that's nothing... But to other countries that more than a great pay..

And how much did Apple make off there backs hundreds of billions
-
You aren't factoring in the time value of money, nor are you?

interesting. But we still can not believe that ABC was totally free in his movements. Anyway, Tim Cook seems more willing to play the transparency card unlike Steve Jobs. And it's already good news for Chinese workers.Watch this video :) how apple drop the cost of production : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMI3kf4fPk8 Have

Holy crap! This is amazing. I knew it'd look something like that. Clean environment, machines doing a lot of it, production lines, etc. Interesting stuff.
