Google Drive Goes Live; But iOS App Not Available at Launch
As expected, Google has just launched Google Drive - its long rumored cloud-based storage service to compete with products such as Dropbox, SugarSync etc.
Google Drive will allow users to upload and access all their files, including videos, photos, Google Docs, PDFs etc.
Here's what you can do with Google Drive:

This is pretty impressive and the price seems good. The only thing they haven't mentioned much about is how it treats your music. That is the most important to me at the moment.
-
The logo is weird! Where is the red... Doesn't look right without all of google's colors IMO.
-
Well it's not available yet on my mac yet. I will be notified when it is so says the link I clicked on above.
-
After reading more, maybe it has to be built for you so that's why it isn't available right away.https://support.google.com/drive/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2456456&p=mktg_invite

And what of Googles privacy policy? If its the same as their web & email, there's nothing to stop them snooping on anyone's files whenever they feel like it, IF they feel it is necessary, and they don't even have to let you know!It sounds a good service with plenty of storage, but I'll stick with iCloud for the present.

I have 10 skydrive accounts at 25gb each....all free. Come on google you will have to do better the that

FYI - Google Drive IS really Google Docs w/ Updates and new features to integrate across all of Google's services.. So its more than just dropbox or skydrive competition, its an expansion of Google Docs to make it easily accessible from Windows/mac's (like clicking a google doc that's synced, and it opens up in google docs / browser).. It is already has a lot more potential than just being a "Dropbox".

One more incomplete solution from google, they get into every space w/o doing much home work. There is no iphone app yet., while every other file storage company does. They need to learn from apple how to do product launches.Google has dropped sooooo many products while adding new products.they can do this till search $$ runs out

would suck a lot less if there wasn't a #@$%#$% WAITING LIST :/
-
also, while I'm fully aware of and tortured daily by the funky and horrifying code smells in Android, it's actually kind of rewarding to see iOS getting a nice, chunky mouthful of second class citizen for once :) Drink up, guys!
-
Holy crap if they aren't copying Apple's ads too
-
Do you mean how iCloud and FaceTime are available on Android and Windows devices?
-
I am fairly certain there is only an iOS app for iCloud so not sure what they can learn for Apple there. From what I have seen, Sky Drive might be the best but who knows what might Google might update to make Drive better. It is a pretty decent start.

So I for one completely agree with Ray. Was it not just weeks ago that Google was found snooping around in email and other accounts and getting in trouble for this? I used to love google and I will continue to use their search engine, but it does make me take pause since my primary email is through them. Why on God's Earth would I want a company looking at my pictures, files, tax documents, contacts, personal documents or more. User beware.
-
Is it flattery or just plain wrong that everyone copies Apple's devices, screens, resolution, ads and online store.
-
But those links are just empty links that go to the google doc in the browser. You don't get a local copy of the spreadsheet or doc.
-
and could care less. Thanks skydrive and dropbox.

waaa. waaa. I'll call you a waambulance
