Apple Sued Over iPad Smart Cover
A resident of Colorado has filed a lawsuit against Apple over the Smart Cover that can optionally be bought alongside the new iPad and the iPad 2.
Suing Apple and Target, one of its official retailers, Jerald Bovino filed a lawsuit in federal court asking the two aforementioned companies to pay royalties for using his technology.

ridiculous!! totally useless invention. never seen one around at all. it's like heaven and hell, far apart. still got the guts to sue. joke of the month of April !!

Oh come on, it took over a year for this to pop up?

So American..People suing Apple just to get money..What's new? *sigh*

Apple has been using other peoples ideas since the 80s with slight changes to make it their own they admitted themselves that they take a concept and make it better ie the mouse iPad iPod mp3 players were out long before the iPod tablet pc were out long before iPad admittedly they have made it a lot better as for copying nothing new here

Who invented the "COMMA" ?Mouse iPad iPod mp3 ????
-
Ooh clever **** I guess nobody invented your head
-
nice can't use comma it is a patent infringement
-
the wrong statement is that APPLE has been doing that. everyone has been doing that.

Anything the accessory maker Incase should have filed a lawsuit since Apple's smart cover is very similar to theirs. Only difference was the magnets and the cover divided into 4 segments. I'm surprised they got the patent.

In all honesty, I can see where he is coming from on this and he does have to protect his patents from a legal standpoint; however, there should have first been a letter sent to Apple pointing out this patent and asking for reasonable royalties. If Apple refused, then a lawsuit should follow, lawsuits should not be the first course of action.

How do you know this is not what he has been doing for the last year?

Not just Apple. This is the new way to make a living for some people. Patents are a good thing, but not when people and companies cannot make a new product without somebody suing because they have a patent that they are not using or using in a totally different way. All this suing costs us money as the consumer.

This is bullshit looks nothing like it and it's two completely diffrent functions their really needs to be another way to handle patents for example if something is a standert way of doing things then It shouldn't be allowed to be patented they way I c it if it's not a complete rip off then it shouldn't violate anything
