Apple Grabs Record 8.8% of Worldwide Mobile Phone Market; But Slips to Second Place in The Worldwide Smartphone Market in Q1 2012
Research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) reports that vendors shipped 398.4 million units in 1Q12 compared to 404.3 million units in the first quarter of 2011.
Based on these estimates, Apple grabbed a record 8.8% of the mobile phone market compared to 8.7% market share in the last quarter.

If apple had several models like Samsung, they'd mash them.

Quantity is not the necessary a succes. Imagine ios opens to non apple device. Appstore will be accessed 1000 times more. That is without spending a cent from apple side.Next would be new apple phones with different abilities and budget. Then you would talk Apple Empire

Not to bash Samsung as it is a great phone but they are considerably cheaper in terms of price as well. This would play a big factor IMO.

But apple is to arrogant to let anybody else sell a device with their OS. Also companies would put out more models with let say bigger screens like people want. No way Apple is going to let the people get what they want, as Apple knows better than you do.

South Koreans are good copy cat producers but rarely innovators. Samsung will always follow apple devices for their design and will also pack them with something that apple doesn't allow or doesn't have. Looks like this is going to bring windfall gains for them though. Clever.
