that has been done already and doesn't cost any monthly fee. Its called Sling Box from Sling Media. Right now thats why apple and at&t are not allowing the developers to bring their software to the iphone because it will do all those things minus the downloading, but the streaming and the remote controlling of the dvr or any other device that you chose to connect it to. check out this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8Cdl546xEQ , http://www.macrumors.com/2008/06/08/demo-video-of-slingplayer-for-iphone-and-ipod-touch/

I think this is an awesome idea! I have U-Verse and Love it. I just wish they had an application already available where I could set shows to record from my iphone instead of logging on to AT&T. They already have a webapp for other phones through the AT&T wap page available to all phones minus iPhone.

I just got uverse and my biggest complaint (outside of not being able to use Back to My Mac) is that there's no iPhone App to control my DVR when I'm not home! That would be so cool. Uverse really is the next step in TV technology and I'm psyched that it's available for me!
