Very cool.

so all the pressure from these clips will not mess up the usb cable?

Nice! I just love a good iPhone craft project. The nice thing over the Apple docking station is that I can use this with my iPhone cover on the phone. My phone cover normally interferes with the Apple docking station. But I can keep my cover on when using this.

Well, after using this once I discovered that it completely covers up the two buttons on the side of the cable so you cannot release you iPhone from the holder. My iPhone was stuck! I had to pull the thing apart to release the cable. So maybe it's not such a great idea unless newer cables don't have those release buttons on the side.

Upon more research I found out the newer 3G cable does not have these side buttons. But here is a zip-tie solution for those with older cables:
Ok, solved the problem with the use of a zip-tie. Works well for those wanting to use an older iPod cable. just tighten the zip-tie around the the connector so that it presses the release buttons in. Make sure you tighten it such that the loop on the zip-tie is tucked around the back of the connector.

Honestly, some of you need to get a life!
Have you got nothing better to do??

I took inspiration from this and did my own DIY iphone dock, by putting the dock inside my desk. You can look at the photos here...
