Portable Fuel Cell Charge Can Charge Your iPhone For Weeks
If you are looking for a charger that can keep your iPhone fully charged for up to two weeks and don't mind carrying a device, which is about the size of a thick smartphone then fuel cell maker Lilliputian Systems - spin-off from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology may have a solution for you.
They have announced plans to sell a portable fuel cell that will be able to charge smartphones like Apple's iPhone.

Your Your?

I don't get it. Does this mean it going to have a fuel in that box like petrol but then i just found out it a USB Portable device lol
-
It just means it will be using the fuel to charge your iPhone when you're out an and about, it could be very useful since you could buy one, go camping and be able to watch movies on your ipad then recharge it.
-
Fuel cells made from combination of hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Not petrol or something.. Lol..
-
Hey Addy, the article says butane. Butane isn't hydrogen or oxygen atoms.
-
No, if you read the article, this one takes butane.Which is the same as petrol, just a lighter fraction. The same fuel is used in hair stylers. The advantage over hydrogen is that it's not equivalent to walking round with a bomb in your pocket.
-
Actually, butane is hydrogen atoms. And also carbon atoms. But no oxygen atoms; that would be butanol.
-
Finally someone who actually read the article, and posted an intelligent comment.+1 good sir, for reading and teaching other basic chemistry knowledge. The rest of you idiots should really do research before talking like you know something.
-
For all you dummies that know nothing about anything.. Butane's chemical formula is C4H10 meaning it has 4 carbon atoms and 10 hydrogen atoms..
-
OK for anyone not getting on an airplane... No solution for flyers though.
-
Another person that not read the article. The first paragraph after the CNET Reports paragraph states; can even be carried on airplanes.
-
The one problem is that it can't. Be my guest though.
-
Or butanoic acid, or butanone etc...
-
This sounds like a regular car battery
-
Safe for a Airplane? I think not!Can you take a Bic lighter on a plane?Butane in a plastic container is a bomb waiting to happen, pin hole and a spark = BOOM!
-
Actually it would be just a flame unless the case had a catastrophic failure. The fluid would squirt out and just burn no boom.
-
Cartriges for few dollars! If the cartridge was refillable like the lighters then it would be a good idea. If it was due to safety concern that it was not allowed to be refilled then understandable otherwise it would be costing too much to replace every week or two. Love the idea though.
-
Generally it's because refilling them might introduce dirt or contaminants, which would clog or poison the catalyst, and render the ecpensive charger useless.
-
Except it can. TSA regulations permit you to carry-on lighters and other butane-containing devices, including styling products.Butane cartridges are also permitted, provided they are under 100ml, and fitted to a device. Loose refills are not allowed.Pre-mixing ('blowtorch') lighters are not permitted, but that's because they're blowtorches, not because they contain butane.
-
It expels CO2 and water vapor. Wonder if it's enough to make a wet spot in your pocket or on your lap depending upon where you set it while in use.

Well said!
