Update on iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak For iPad2,4
iPad 2 users probably know by now that Absinthe 2.0.x released few days back by iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak team does not support the $399 iPad 2 Wi-Fi only model (iPad2,4).
The good news is that the jailbreak team is working hard to add support for iPad2,4 to Absinthe 2.0 - the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak.
iOS hacker - planetbeing tweeted:
Need someone with an iPad2,4, can upload 200 MB quickly, knowledge of FTP. Send screenshot of Absinthe not working for confirmation.

i have ipad 2 wifi only model and have successfully jailbreaked my device,DIdnt find any trouble jailbreaking it,Why are you saying that it doesnot support ipad2 wifi only model even though my ipad 2 is wifi only model and its jailbreaked (ios 5.1.1)Regards

Good for you. But we are referring to the iPad 2 model, which comes with tweaked A5 chip - http://www.iphonehacks.com/2012/04/apple-tv-3-new-ipad-2-powered-by-smaller-a5-chip-32-nm-process.html. You can download the free linpack benchmarking app and find out your iPad's model number. It will most likely be iPad2,1.

Can't wait. It was so disappointing to try to jailbreak the day of release only to find out that my device was one of a few that wasnt compatible! Thanks guys and can't wait to jailbreak!

I have been looking for these iPad2,4 as it would be more beneficial getting it than getting an iPad 3 (for my desire).. But I can't seem to find it just yet (unless taking my chances in stores). But one confusing thing is, isn't it quite easy to see what model is it just my keying in the serial number of the iPad onto system checker from Apple or some other websites such as this http://www.chipmunk.nl/cgi-fast/applemodel.cgi ? It gives the model number of iPad2,1 for mine, which i am really gutted as I just got it recently.. Correct me if i am wrong if this doesn't actually work.

I have the iPad2 that I bought for 399. It won't jailbreak with absinthe. I downloaded the linpack app and it says I have iPad 2,1. Is that right? Or did I do something wrong?

I dont believe that they were all released with the newer, more efficient chip. I read that for now it's a toss up if your getting it or not when you make the purchase.

I agree I got mine 3 weeks ago and it's a iPad2,4 my friend got one last week new and it's a iPad2,1 at the same cost I did Also I would say is unluckyBut unlucky for me that I can't jailbreak mine yet

As the above post is rather misleading, if you have ipad2,4 linpack will say just that, ipad2,4

Or if you have an iPad 2 firmware 5.1.1 and try to jailbreak with absinthe 2.0.x and it says your Not supported. Definitely 2,4

I think the easy way to find out if you have ipad 2 wifi R2 (ipad2,4) or NOT. Go to settings,General and About. Scroll down till you see the Model # ...... first two letters says MC then you have a ipad2,4 (R2). If it's MB then it is not an R2 model.... Your good for JB... Hope this help
