Does Cydia work? Did you install Semi-tether as it appears you are running in semi-tethered mode?
Also which version of iOS is running on your iPhone 4? -
cydia is not working either. does the same thing, cuts out upon opening
-
i don't know much about cydia but it is on there and my friend who originally did this showed me something with it that day...but i don't remember what exactly...
-
and activator isn't working either
-
oops i didn't mean to accept, sorry
-
version 5.1 which i see is unfortunate

It looks like you're running in semi-tethered mode. Turn off your iPod touch and rerun Redsn0w, click on Extras and then click on Just boot from the list of options and follow the on screen instructions to reboot your iPod touch. It should resolve the problem.
It is also a good idea to upgrade to iOS 5.1.1 as Redsn0w and Absinthe support untethered jailbreak and using the tutorials here - http://www.iphonehacks.com/jailbreak#ios511 to jailbreak your iPod touch on iOS 5.1.1. -
i will try. what does 'depend on unlocking' mean, and, where do i see the upgrade to 5.1.1 and, do i upgrade first or reboot w/redsnow first...thanks
-
Ignore the comment about unlocking ... initially thought you had an iPhone 4 ... you can try rebooting with redsn0w to see if it resolves the problem ... you can upgrade to iOS 5.1.1 via iTunes but you will lose your jailbreak and all your jailbreak apps/tweaks and will have to do the jailbreak and installation of the apps/tweaks all over again.

is 5.1.1 noticeably better, do i want it? i think if i jail broke it once, i can do it again, by connecting w/redsnow again, right? but, is it worth it?
-
It is worth it as it Redsn0w and Absinthe support untethered jailbreak so you don't have to go through this hassle everytime you have to reboot your iPod touch.
-
yes that sounds worth it. and sort of the same as what i just had to do aside from the tweaks - which aren't many and don't all work (like hand stroke commands on apps thru activator, etc
nothing annoying will happen with upgrading like deleting music not bought or put on by someone else since jailbroken?..

It is always important to take a backup before you upgrade so you can always restore from the backup if you hit any issues.

but there is only syncing as back-up? or using senuti or something to get music? is there some other basic backup i don't know about (probable)...also, with senuti i disabled auto sync and haven't synced since in fear of losing that music...unfounded fear? thanks much for your input!
