What happened to all that chatter about the industry coming together to make one cable to rule them all?

@Hm... if that happens look outside your window, pigs may be flying too.
  • That would be so freakin' annoying!!! I paid the full price for a factory unlocked iPhone 4 and paid good money for a bunch of accessories (audio system, speakers, battery chargers of all kinds, FM receiver, MANY charging cables, Audio/Video cables....) that all would become suddenly obsolete just by switching phone! That's enough of a deterrent for me to think more than twice before upgrading! The new iPhone would need to be revolutionary (with the same kind of effect the original iPhone had on the smart phone market) which I have a hard time seeing happening. If Apple does plan on changing port connector perhaps they should use standard connectors such as micro-usb! At least that would guarantee some kind of longevity to accessories made for it.

I'm kind of sad they made it more like an ipod touch , with earphone plug at the bottom , more over , the second microphone for noise cancelation seems to have disappeared .... but it is cool they made it openable from the front , iphone 4 and 4S are a pain in the *** too repare , at least the screen is . We'll see if once again , apple failed to keep their new iphone hidden from the public before it's official release .

I would think that many manufacturers will develop a 19 pin to 30 pin adapter if apple does indeed make this change. Although it would be necessary to purchase the adapter, at least all the current accessories we all have wouldnt have to be purchased again.
  • Just don't understand this move.... What about all the people with iPhone hookups on their car stereos ... Trouble trouble ahead
  • They should adopt the micro USB as standard

I can't imagine a very small, unobtrusive pass-thru style adapter would be hard to engineer, and MAYBE even include with the phone itself or offer as a VERY inexpensive accessory.

If apple doesn't do it themselves, SOMEBODY will.

great...let's just have ANOTHER fuckin standard for connectors...AGAIN. Fuckin stupid. Go Apple for trying to bleed us for more money.
  • If there is this change, it will be so Apple can control after market connectors, leading people to buy more accessories, and make more money! They could easily go to a micro usb, but that just would not be the Apple way.
  • Quite ur whinnying its all to the good u want a good product r not I've been a iPhone owner for years now time to upgrade the connections and make the phone better for all the connection is just a small detail at least there not switching the earplug adapters
  • That would totally suck! I would have to replace so many devices that I have bought over the years. Why can't the industry just develop one connector for all phones?

One more reason I'm seriously considering switching to a droid phone.

Making a small 19-pin dock connector, will lead in to 2 possible things.

1 : faster data transfer (maybe)

2 : other manufactures making alternative dock adapter to support the new 19-pin dock connecter.(bad thing to us also the manufactures).
