Are the maps stored locally or does it require a data connection to access?

^you need a data connection. There is no way that Verizon or ATT will allow apple to build a device that wont use their networks for GPS. That is part of their cash cow. Satellite imaging uses up a lot of data and has potential for people to go over their limits and therefore overages. Plus apple, to save costs, will probably not include a dedicated GPS receiver.

My Facebook notifications have been non-functional since at least beta 2 (I don't remember if they were working in beta 1).
Am I the only one with this problem? -
I know apple Fun Boyz will always love anything apple make but rest assured Maps will never near google maps...at least for a long while. I hope there will still be a way to install google map either from the Appstore or cydia.

just updated to beta 3, took a phone call and noticed that my contact pictures no longer fill the screen, instead it shows a small contact picture at the top of screen with name of caller

If you have a blocked number and you use *82 to display it to friends and family, you don't have to enter the phone twice on those contacts to get tour caller ID to work.
