This is not showing the temperature for me not the nifty animations shown via the demo. just displays the conditions via text. Is this working for anyone?

The weather app you saw in the demo is the actual iOS default Weather app. Completely separate from the notification center weather section. The way you described it showing up is exactly how it is supposed to
