iPhone App - Clippy is an Impressive Attempt to bring Missing Copy and Paste Feature to the iPhone
Unfortunately after more than a year and half of iPhone's launch, Copy and Paste is still the most wanted feature whenever there are rumors of Apple planning to release the new firmware update. In December 2008, a service called Pastebud was released which brought Copy & Paste feature to the...

works great. now if only you could copy and paste text from text messages. very lacking feature - seeing it as thats what i was primarily going to use this for =[
-
With CopierciN you can copy text from sms's, notes, contacts, mail etc and then, with clippy you can paste wherever you like :D
-
You CAN copy text from an email that you have received - just click the forward button, from there you can access the text. Same with SMS but IF you use alternate SMS application like biteSMS.
-
Hey Dimitri,
Interesting idea but unfortunately it doesn't work :(
-
You can cut & paste from a txt. Just highlight the text and copy - how difficult can it be.
-
The app is pretty good actually. You do need to hit the <.?123> button on the virtual keyboard to activate the and buttons, but that's quite simple. Works from anywhere the virtual keyboard is shown. Fantastic app.

Hey Aleksander,
Good workarounds, I have just updated the post with with your tips for copying text from email and SMS.
Thanks

Hey Ash,
I think tj means copying text from SMS messages. There is no way to copy text from SMS if you are using the default SMS application.
However, as Aleksander has pointed out you can use jailbreak app biteSMS to forward the SMS so that iPhone's virtual keyboard is enabled. You can then use Clippy.

If you combine this with pastebud or icopy, (copy Safari text to email, then you can copy it anywhere) this is basically system-wide copy/Paste!!
-
Any idea on how to move the cursor to fix a typo now, without clippy highlighting everything?
-
You are welcome :)

i can't find the app on cydia, i think i was removed ?
not even under Bigboss
can any one help me -
Again .. please .. what is the easiest and best way to copy text from Safari pages? (not URL) so that I can use Clippy to paste it anywhere later.
iCopy
Pastebud
CopierciNThanks.

Hey Ad,
Clippy is available in Cydia as Clippy beta. Just use the search feature and you should be able to find it.
-
Hey ZedSefi,
None of these apps/workarounds work with Clippy as they don't use the same technique in case of iCopy and Pastebud and CopierciN doesn't use the same clipboard.
But not being able to copy from iPhone's Safari is one of the major limitation of Clippy.
Lets hope Ryan or Apple can find a solution for it as well soon.

Ok, I restored my 3G and re-jailbroke it now it works, great work.

This app cant work for me.
I am using iPhone 3G with firmware 2.2 JB.
I am using 4 keyboard, english, chinese and japanese.
And I don't have @123 botton. I only have 123 button and next to it is the globe button to switch keyboard.
So I can't activate the cut n paste. -
Hi Ivan, if you can backup all you data, restore with iTunes, jailbreak again then install clippy and restore you data back, this worked for me.
-
I don't understand it was working perfectly and suddenly i cant access anymore to the copy/paste bar. Ive tried remove then install again but same thing ... Any clue ?
-
Thanks for the SMS work-around Aleksander. Anyone been able to get clippy to work w/MMS?
-
Latest version, 0.95-5 absolutely rocks! Selected text is highlighted, long press on 123 brings up Clippy's menu. So far has worked perfectly for me.
-
I can't seem to find version 0.95-5, and whenever I try to copy anything with version 0.94, the "stack" tells me "Clippy beta expired...please upgrade"
