Music gone again please HELP

So i have an older ipod touch 4thgen it is running on ios 4.2.1 jail broken with cydia, istallous and ifile as the programs i was using if i update it to the new 6.?.? will I lose my music? as every time I plug it in to itunes it wants to update and hides my music to where the music player will not show i have music unless it is plugged into itunes. is there a way to save my music so it's not lost forever? was on hard drive I no longer have access to and it wasn't purchased music.
