3gs stuck in recovery mode, losing the will to live!

Hi, I'm hoping I might get some friendly advice here as to how to get my 3gs out of an endless recovery loop. It all started when I changed the battery and I ended up getting various error messages with Itunes. Ive spent the last week trawling forums etc trying to find a fix and have tried various options with redsn0w and tiny umbrella but always end up back in the same place, in recovery mode. The phone is only for my kids to play around with but I'd love to get it working, not concerned now if it means jailbreaking the phone or whatever, would just like to make it useable for something. I'm wasting my life away here, can anyone help? By the way I've tried all this with the old battery in and that isnt working now either

You should try to sync the iphone with other computer, that you never sync before the iphone
