tethering iphone3gs/net10 to my older pc ( XP S3). help?

thanks in advance. attempting to use this iphone 3gs/net10 as a wireless modem for my old pc. my efforts to "jailbreak have so far failed per several different error messages from the latest redsnOw 0.9.15b13 and ipod4.1 6.0 1044 03 restored.ipsw. Is this a futile effort? thanks : ) ( this is all about the being poor, trying to save money ; )

Same answer as ealier gave below: do a fresh install to 6.x. Jb (and restore if needed). Install mywi 6 from cydia. Costs few bux though.
