Not working for me I am on a 3g on 3.1 firmware and jailbroken...gets to about 95% and then freezes any one else having this problem?
-
Sorry, I forgot to mention, I am on iPhone 3g, 3.1 FW.
-
If they stopped reading in the middle of the article, thats their stupidity. anyway, MMS is great. I no longer have the need to jailbreak my phone. It's been a fun trip though. No more hacking for me.
-
I am running 3.0.1 jailbroken and used the method Corey mentioned only from a different website, but the method does work.
-
I'm going with TEE on this one. If you are stupid enough to try something out before you finish reading, then you deserve whatever you get because you obviously have no idea what the hell you are doing anyway. I'm not attacking TC, just addressing the people that are accidentally updating to 3.1 out of stupidity.

Is there anyway to do the carrier update without having to jump to 3.1? I am on 3.0 and dont want all the issues I am reading about!
-
Give it a few seconds, mine hangs at about the same amount then sends.
-
This is right. I just tried in my 3GS and it works perfectly. So far I have sent 25 pic messages. In my case I got an error when trying to appliy the carrier update. I was using the hack to enable tethering so I had to inistall the I unoficiall carrier first theN reboot my iPone. Then I installed the new carrier, rebooted again and bam!! It was working. And for some strange reason the tethering still works.
-
So i wanted to keep my tethering hack and stay in os 3.0.1 on my 3gs, so I did the mms hack using the 5.1 .ipcc file. It worked great except I can get the new visual voicemail alerts to popup. I have like three unheard messages but it not alerting my iphone. What is going on. Tethering is working, MMS is working. I want to try the 5.5 .ipcc file but I heard it turns off the cellular data network settings. Anybody out there with solutions. Or anybody out there with 5.5 picc. file can you tell me what the apn settings say for all the fields such as cellular data, or visual voicemail, or mms?????
-
i meant to say I "can't" get the visual voicemail alert to work. I have messages waiting but its not alerting my iphone.
-
this is not about this problem but does anyone know how i can unlock a 3.1
-
2 separate phones with 3g, non- family plans.. and the red exclamation still comes up. any ideas...

If you updated your phone to the new carrier on AT&T 5.5 switch it back to the 5.1 or 5.0 if you can 5.5 restricts your message picture or video size to like 600KB which is small I have the 5.1 on my phone and I was sending pictures and vids just fine as soon as I got that update nothing would send I called them they was saying something about the picture size so they sent me a test and it work it was a small pix so I downgraded back to 5.1 and it worked just fine.
-
How would you do this without a jailbroken iPhone running FW 3.1?
-
It works without being on FW 3.1, 3.0 also works with the posted method.
-
I have 3.0 with 5.5 carrier file and it didn't work for me. I called AT&T and she re-authorized my iphone and then removed my family texting plan and put it back on and sent me a test mms. It worked. If you have a family plan remove it and have it put back on. This should help those still having problems.
-
Oh! And I still have tethering.
-
I've had this from June in the UK on Orange using 3.0...
-
coreys method worked great for me. iam on 3.01 jailbroken 3gs. in love with my iphone all over again
-
use this tutorial, it's the eaisiest one i found.

if you upgrade to 3.1 you will loose the teathering hack!!!!!!!

I finally figured it out. OS 3.0.1, Kept tethering working, Visual Voicemail alerts all working now, and MMS. now just gotta experiment with the size limit options.
Heres what I did,
I downloaded the 5.1 .ipcc modified file from the mms hack link, and follow the instructions. Rebooted, Set my APN to (AT&T):Cellular Date
APN: wap.cingular
Username:
Password:Visual Voicemail
APN: acds.voicemail
Username:
Password:MMS
APN: wap.cingular
Username:
Password:
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32:80
MMS Max Message Size: 614400
MMS UA Prof URL:Then reboot.
I did have to mess around a bit to get the visual voicemail to work.
entering acds.cingular in visual voicemail for some reason turns off tethering.
but i guess thats why you should enter "acds.voicemail" or not.. I think the right thing to do after the mms hack, and the visual voicemail is not working right, is to go the settings/general/reset/network settings, although this might also delete all your saved password for known wi-fi hotspots but I guess its a small price to pay to get the visual voicemail to work properly,If you use mobileconfig to unlock the tethering. I also deleted the US ATT cellular data PROFILE in that settings panel as well and rebooted. This might also have contributed to getting my visual voicemail to work
Like everyone says, if you update to 3.1, tethering will be turned off again for now until its figured again.
I recommend that before you do any hacks, to backup your iphone, and write down all of your APN settings before doing the mms hack, or tethering hack, or any hack.

UPDATE
Okay so this setting stop working, but I adjusted the settings and added
mms setting as followUsername: wap@cingulargprs.com
Password: CINGULAR1adding these settings plus above in the original post and rebooting got it working again
