in order to use blacksn0w you need a jailbroken phone. So the answer is yes you have to use blackra1n first to jb it, then blacksn0w

Nice. Just ran the blackrain App on my phone and did everything. Fully unlocked phone, Sweet!.
My question is how do I switch carriers now with my phone? I want to switch to Verizon. Do I just walk in with my iPhone?

The iPhone CANNOT work on Verizon because they are not hardware/network compatible.

Yup Verizon is CDMA and Iphone is GSM only.

Many thanks to Geohot for looking out for us all. My only question is with this latest breakthrough, is it now OK (intentional or unintentional)to update to Apple's latest firmware via itunes, known very well that such an update would change the phone's baseband to 05.11.07?
