put ur phone in restore mode and connect to itunes.
Restore the custom firmware.Create custom firmware using http://ih8sn0w.com/index.php/welcome.snow
it worked for me.

Ryan you may be waiting till the next OS is realised, this upgrade is not important enough for the dev team to reveal to Apple new exploits just so Apple can fix them before the next big OS relics. The article it dos tell us that right at the beginning.

So, how do I find my bootrom?
It's a 3Gs, 5.11.07, Model no starts with MC, running 3.1.2 jb/Blackra1n rc2 -
Still freakin confused. Im running 3.1.2 3gs with that crap bootrom that didn't let me jailbreak unless it was tethered. Is this version of pwnage bypassing the tether now? No mention of that and I won't jb yet without knowing if it's a tethered jailbreak or not. And even with this bootrom there was no mention whether I should avoid using this version, unlike that new sn0w that came out earlier who says I should. Any advisement?

You can find your baseband via the Settings app (General->About->Modem Firmware
OLD BOOTROM ONLY. If the 4th/5th digits of the serial # are before 40 then you should have the old bootrom.

actually you can already jailbreak 3.1.3 depending on your iphone model using redsn0w, but with no unlock atm.

i restored my iphone 3gS (early version) with 3.1.3 firmware bcuz my camera stopped working when i updated my carrier settings when itunes loaded, i lost my jailbreak. all you have to do is use jay freemans way to redirect requests to Apple's signature server to Cydia, download a good 3.1.2 firmware for 3gs, hold shift, restore to that firmware and when the error message appears and the itunes connect is displayed on your phone, run REDSNOW 0.9.4 and boot as a teathered jailbreak. phone will start and activate when itunes loads. then use blackra1n like you did b4. then restore from back up. even tho modem firmware update it still activates since you downgraded..
once i updated my carrier settings, **** on my phone wouldnt work, its like apple forces you to update.

yeah and since i have a 3gs i'm not gonna bother downgrading (considering i had upgraded to 3.1.3). currently running 3.1.2 and already jailbroken so i'm fine with that. also don't feel the need to go through all the steps just to upgrade to 3.1.3. like i said, i'll wait ;)

I'm in the same situation (i.e. phone model etc.) and am following your instructions. On saurik's post on restoring to 3.0 firmware he mentioned doing the restore twice when getting the error message. Is that what you did? Thanks for the redsn0w version number, I was curious about that. -
You only restore once. Use freemans way to redirect signature to cydia, hold shift, click on restore, chose 3.1.2 firmware u downloaded for 3gs, let it restore, once the error message comes up in iTunes, close iTunes, open redsnow, chose 3.1.2 ispw, click next, yes to newer 3gs,(even if you don't) unclick cydia, click. Teather option, click next. iPhone will finish restore since iTunes couldn't since the downgraded firmware won't work with modem update from 3.1.3. After it is finished. Close redsnow. Open iTunes and phone will activate.. Then back up, or sync..

Then run blackrain rc2 or rc3 to add cydia and rock.

Tried this on a 3GS old boot rom it worked fine but left the phone without telephone/3G, so back to 3.1.2 waste of several hours!!
Just a thought but had o2 unlock the phone when they said they would could this be the reason?

If you downgraded your old 3gS from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 you can't unlock it. I could only jailbreak my 3gS for now.

No my phone is actually unlocked - can request it from o2, when I upgraded to 3.2 I lost carrier!!

Start that again, my phone is actually legally unlocked as its just a request to o2. When I upgraded to 3.1.3 the jail break worked but I lost carrier!! Downgrading has restored the status quo!
