i had the same idea, but will the bumper and shield work together. I have seen cases for the 3gs that would not fit with the shield on. The fit was just too tight. Hopefully this will not be an issue

As for the glass being so durable ... I got my iPhone after 6 months with NO problems I got a crack in the back of the phone, I USUALLY use the otterbox but it blocks the sensor on my iphone4 so the phone is CONSTANTLY hanging up, calling others etc, then one night I dropped my phone NOT EVEN a foot onto the ground and the screen SHATTERED there was glass everywhere. I had iphone4parts.com repair my phone ... I got my phone back and within a week I had another crack in back. Today I have it I'm just a rubber otterbox case (NOT the big heavy duty one) dropped it again and the whole back is cracked. Seriously! This glass is not very strong ...
