Is it just me or does everone's iPhone 4 get very hot on the back glass from long term use or charging?
-
Thats the same with any iPhone, no?
My 3GS gets hot after prolonged use, or charging.
-
Yes mine get very warm aswell especially when talking on the phone
-
my 3g has always got hot after lots of usage and charging too
-
I don't know if any of you have noticed that with the new 4.0 the iPhone stops charging the battery once the batt is full?
-
You idiots...., all phones get hot or any other electrical appliance in use..., unless there is some type of cooling system like with computers and even then...
-
Steve jobs 2 weeks ago : don't hold it like that !
Steve jobs tomorrow : don't hold it ! -

I have a great story to add.... And proof apple was giving MacBooks out to replace computer because of iPhones 3Gs' catching fire. It was based on a particular USB cable people were using to charge their phones. If the cable was improperly inserted and the phone left, the battery would explode. I have lots of proof including fire dept reports.

I had an almost identical thing happen to my 3G or 3GS i cant recall which one now, it was some time ago, I didnt see it happen when i came home the end of the plug was melted and black in parts very similar to this, perhaps not quite as severe, no damage to the phone and It's still working fine, however I counted my lucky stars that day,I could have come home to a burned down house if it wasn't resting on metal surface.
-
of course not or he wouldve put them on.

After 4 days of heavy web surfing my first i4 screen went all white then all black. It was still working even though I couldn't see anything. I hooked it up to iTunes to wipe it clean of all my stuff on the phone which took hours. The phone got so hot I had to wave it around to cool it down as I was sure it might go up in flames. It sucked as that phone had good reception. Full bars no matter how I held it being a lefty. My new phone no so good.

Looks like it makes you think you're one.

I mean really... USB voltages causing a fire? I think this is FUD. Can't believe no one else picked up on it. Just goes to show how little people understand about electricity.
-
it's not voltage dude its current that causes things like that to happen.... go place a spanner on a car battery's terminals, and watch it melt, thats only 12V...... how much people know about electricity............

I have noticed from day 1 that whenever i charge my iPhone 4 from computer it gets real hot. specially the antennas. This seems a serious issue.
-
Nowadays, iPhone seems unreliable, lucky me i didn't buy on their first day or else i'd regret. Seems like Apple don't test their products before selling it to public.. Apple, apple..
-
Look I'm sure it's one of those hidden features from ios 4.0.
-
I could see parents after charging there iPhone 4 then giving it to there 3 year old, the child dropping it cause it was to hot. Not good apple even if the phone was made for adults ppl do let there kids play with the phone. I could see the lawsuits, my child hand was burned because of this hot fancy antenna and it was dropped so glass is every where.

Steve says your plugging it in wrong....

Is he sure he plugged it into a USB port?
My girlfriend burnt her phone and cord by
Accidently plugging it inti an IEEE port. -
Yeah, but how many amps are being pushed through USB? If i remember correctly the specification is 0.5 amps. A car battery can go upto 600A
You are right about the current...van de graaf generators holds 100's of thousands of volts. Correct me if I'm wrong though, they hold such a minute current it doesn't do anything to the body..
This seems really bogus to me. Cause the only thing that would burn it that bad would be the battery...but either the battery explodes or it doesn't.
-
The incident happened to me... I will try and copy emails, and receipts... If you guys want more information I'll definately shoot you an email.
-
There you go. Problem solved. lol
-
So dangerous apple's antenna..:S

From what I recall of discussions on charging current this would have to be a fault of both the phone and the USB port. The USB port can't force the phone to draw more current than it will accept, likewise the phone can't draw more current than the port provides. The port shouldn't have provided enough current for this to happen, but similarly, the phone should not have drawn enough current for this to happen.
