They could do what Nvidia did with their faulty 8600M GT GPUs. Admit there are "few" units that are faulty when in reality all are bad, and screw us all at the end at the mercy of laptop manufactures who will provide some sort of free extended warranty.

RECALL!!! they can't sort the proximity sensor issue any other way! Everyone is so fixated on the reception issue that they forget about the proximity issue!

good for you guys...mine has few problems , they exchange it two times already but every time they exchange it , the problem of the exchange one is getting more problem than i used to have, now my iphone 4 has own case but the signal still drops even when you are not touching it, and still the proximity sensor is still doing its magic...last night i have no download / upload in my phone in both 3G & wifi...i dont know what to do im tired of exchanging it, they said u cant retun it anymore cause u exchange it and dont have the original phone... whats with that?

I don't have a reception issue because i have a case on my phone, my proximity sensor "seems" to be working fine but I have accidentally muted calls and connected to FaceTime so now i need to be more "aware" of how I'm holding my phone. My Bluetooth sucks with the iPhone 4 but with my 3G it was crystal clear and the iPhone 4 randomly likes to tell me I have no sim installed. I'm thinking about returning it.

Yeah, it's hard to imagine Apple owning up to the hardware issue and doing a recall.
But come on, how much longer can Steve keep denying the new iphone 4 has problems in the wake of all the confirmed issues many are having?
Swallow your pride Apple, recall IP4, and fix it. If those who have no problems prefer to keep theirs, then so be it.

I use a case no matter what, iphones are fragile. But the point is you really shouldn't have to use one if you don't want to.
There are more issues than just the reception, so a case will not take care of all the problems.

I'm not using a case although I have one ordered - and the phone's working great for me. I get better connections than I did with my original iPhone. On the other hand, I'm right handed and really don't have any trouble holding the phone so I don't cover the dreaded 'death grip' zone.
I'm really more concerned with how long I have to wait to get ios 4 on my iPad!

I bought a damn bumper case and my signal strength still drops. Now I only drop 10% of my calls as opposed to 50% without it. I think the problem is going to vary in severity from phone to phone. A free bumper would probably solve alot of it, although, I think it will be a PR nightmare without a recall for those of us that a bumper doesn't cure.

It does not matter bumper no bumper not even holding the phone in my hand. The phone drops calls at least 3-5 a day. Might be time to go back to the old 3g. I live 20 min from Baltimore 25 from DC signal drops in and out all the time. Hope they have a fix
