TinyUmbrella Updated Ahead Of iOS 4.1 Release; Includes Baseband Protection For iPhone 4
A new version of TinyUmbrella, the tool that allows you to take backups of SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) has just been released in anticipation of iOS 4.1, which is expected to be released tomorrow, September 8. The new version of TinyUmbrella will also protect your iPhone from baseband updates when...

so any one with iphone 4s with factory 4.0.2 (week 33 and up) have to use tiny umbrella to back up shsh????
-
You can, but what for? Unless you upgrade to 4.1 and it makes your new iPhone 4 run so bad that you have to downgrade (not likely) then you might as well start from where it's worth backing up. It's been said there won't be a jailbreak for 4.0.2 but it is likely for 4.1. I would just wait for the 4.1 jailbreak and use Cydia to backup your SHSH blobs.

Scratch that reply if you plan on unlocking your iPhone 4.

Please Change the title as it is misleading to people with iPhone 3g and 3gs, It would be better like this:
"TinyUmbrella Updated Ahead Of iOS 4.1 Release; Includes Baseband Protection for iPhone 4"
But its good to know there is a way to be able to not have to upgrade your baseband. ;)
-
Done, updated the title, hope it avoids any confusion.

i have a feeling that backing up SHSH are necessary for future JBs.
I have 3 week 33s Iphone 4s (4.0.2 from factory/bricks) and i have just saved SHSH on two of them with this new version of tiny umbrella (just in case) one i left untouched. i think they will try using old basband on a 4.1 update!
what do you think? is it worth saving de 4.0.2 SHSH?????
-
I CANT WAIT FOR THAT UPGRADE ..MY PHONE IS SLOW AS HELL.. HOWEVER IT'S NOT TOO CLEAR YET IT IS POSSIBLE TO JAILBREAK/UNLOCK ONCE UPGRADE..
-
Seems like for those of us with out SHSH blobs saved, and running 4.0.2, we can use tiny umbrella to downgrade to 4.0.1 Yes?

Yes you can. I just did it the other day. I just bought a new iphone 3gs with 4.0.2., but I used tinyumbrella to save my shsh as 4.0.1 in the advanced options and it worked. I was able to downgrade to 4.0.1
-
Wow I have to try this out! This could be a much sought after solution to those who are sitting on a 4.0.2 phone with out SHSH saved.
-
It's been 3 hours, did it work Edantron??
-
Sorry, Looks like the Auto-timestamp is not in the same timezone as my computer.
-
No you can't because Apple has to sign a SHSH request which they are no longer doing. My guess is that your so-called "new" iPhone isn't "new" and the previous owner saved the SHSH blobs via Cydia thus allowing TinyUmbrella to recover them.
-
Thats true i did it about 2 weeks ago!.....
-
Although hxclos seems to be on the right track, I'm going to give it a shot right now. I'll post the results. I'm using an iphone 4 by the way.
-
Didn't work:
09/07/2010 22:26:12.017 CYDIA DOES NOT HAVE YOUR SHSH FOR iPhone4 4.0.1 (8A306) THERE IS NO WAY FOR YOU TO GET THEM. SORRY. YOU ARE JUST TOO LATE.
I understand how this works now. :(

When you use TinyUmbrella, it saves a copy of your SHSH on your desktop and sends a request to Cydia. For Cydia, it takes a while before it picks it up. When I was trying to point the server to Cydia it didn't work, that's how I knew a copy was never saved. How I got it to work is once you save the 4.0.1 shsh on your desktop, you have to unplug your internet. When you use Tinyumbrella, it automatically updates your host file so you don't have to change it. Once you unplug your internet, on Tinyumbrella, hit the run TSS server and leave that on. That will point itunes to your desktop instead of Cydia or Apple. From there just restore with the 4.0.1.
-
No, because when I had my server point to the Cydia Server, it would error out when I tried to restore and when I checked Cydia it did not have a copy of my SHSH. The only way I was able to get it to work is actually unplug my internet and had TinyUmbrella validate it through my desktop. So I know it was a brand new 3gs with no SHSH saved previously.
-
"How I got it to work is once you save the 4.0.1 SHSH on your desktop, you have to unplug your internet."
The issue here is that you can't save the SHSH on your desktop in the first place. And unplugging the Internet has nothing to do with this. That's the whole point of the TSS server.
-
I don't have SHSH for 4.0.1, so I don't think what you did would work, would it?
-
When you use TinyUmbrella, you need to click on the advanced option and click on the advanced option. Then go to the Device/Version drop down menu and change it to the 4.0.1 instead of 4.0.2 and then hit Save my SHSH. Once it saves, click on "Start TSS Server" and disconnect your Internet. Then restore using the 4.0.1. Firmware.
-
You need to check to see how TinyUmbrella works before you respond back. If you used it before then you would know that it can and does save a copy on your hard drive. As far as the TSS server, Tiny Umbrella updates you hosts file to look either Cydia's server or your desktop. It's basically the same concept as the Cydia server. You trick iTunes into looking somewhere else, but in this case your desktop.
-
Also, make sure that you keep the "Start TSS server" while you are trying to restore.
-
Yep, thats what I did. Doesn't work - I never had 4.0.1 shsh saved in cydia. Thank you for the posts though :) I've scoured the internet for solutions regarding this, but there's nothing out there. So if there are any other suggestions other than sit on it and wait, let me know :D
