won't work on Mac Or Linuxand as for unlocking it's not necessary for Jailbreaking but more of an option for the user to change sim cards and use a different carrier

I have my iphone 3g ilegal unlocked with firmware 4.1 it's a Custom FW that's why I kept mi baseband 05.13.04 but I have a Sync problem wich I think will fix if I jailbreak with Redsn0w. My question is:

Sherif Hasim, an iPhone Hacking expect has announced on Twitter that he has found a new exploitable baseband crash and he succeeded on 1st step on both sides. That means the Ultrasn0w tool is coming soon to unlock the basebands 5.14.02 and 2.10.04 on iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2.

I had the same problem with the ramdisk thing. I then tried this:
First download the 4.1 restore. Then go to redsnow and hack the 4.1. Don't do anything with redsnow after the hack of 4.1. Now go to itunes and hold shift and click restore at the same time. Search and open the hacked 4.1 you just created. Itunes now will update your iphone to the hacked 4.1. After that (takes awhile) go to redsnow and follow the instructions given. Hope this works for you.

Oh yeah, I'm using windows 7 but put the redsnow to xp service pack 3 compatibility. Try that too

I have done everything in the instructions but redsnow wont identify the firmware I downloaded.(iPhone1,2_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw)

ktmmatt: Right-click the redsn0w executable and select properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and select the appropriate checkbox(es).

It's greate to use jailbreak with iphone 3G. these steps are really helpful.

I had this and i had to reset all phone settings and then reinstall.
It happened to me probably because I previously didn't use redsn0w to jailbreak.
ie. Not from a clean install -

I had the same problem as well with windows 7 and it works great after set redsnow redsnow to xp service pack 3 compatibility. See Doc's instruction further down on the blog on how to change the compatibility to redsnow.
