MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has revealed that he has managed to get untethered jailbreak to work on iOS 4.2.1.
This is good news for users who own an iPhone 4/iPad/iPod Touch 4G/iPhone 3GS (with new bootrom) as currently Redsn0w and PwnageTool for iOS 4.2.1 can jailbreak newer iDevices on iOS 4.2.1 but it is tethered. iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS (older bootrom) users are the lucky ones to enjoy an untethered jailbreak.MuscleNerd tweeted the news:

Unless you have a printer that supports it or airplay, theirs no other reason to upgrade to 4.2 imho

Just in case i decide to upgrade to the 4.2.1 or the soon rumored 4.3 by Apple, i was wondering how to keep all my cracked apps? Is that in any way possible??? I'd welcome brilliant/technical ideas on this matter as this is my only dilemma w/ all these upgrading. It wud b sch a pain the ass to redownload everything all over again. Go online and look for Cyder 2. It is like cydia for your computer. When I'm going in between jailbreaks. I download all the jailbreak apps I have on my idevice at the time. After you update just hook your idevice back up and put all your apps into Cydia Autoinstall and reboot. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube on how to use Cyder.

Good deal. But, will the new JB preserve the baseband? I am currently on 5.11.07 and, although I would like the new features of 4.2.1, I don't want to lose the unlockable baseband. Nor do I want to go to the iPad baseband. Just wondering....good work Dev Team

First, you have to jailbreak in order to unlock. And FOR FREE, where are your manners. Either wait or get a factory unlocked phone. Geeezzzz!!!
