iPhone Dev Team Confirms Release Of Untethered Jailbreak For iOS 4.2.1 By Christmas
Couple of weeks back, we had reported that Comex, developer of popular jailbreaking tools like JailbreakMe and Spirit was planning to release a userland based jailbreak method for iOS 4.2.1 before Christmas.
MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that an untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 4.2.1 was indeed in the works and is on schedule to be released by Christmas.
MuscleNerd confirmed the news while responding to a tweet from one of his follower:

Thats good news, but what about an unlock for the most recent baseband? Its not like your gaining much functionality from ...whatever firmware upgrade.

dear mrBean...i do not have an iphone 4 and do not need an unlock solution for it...but speaking for the DEV team, they worked hard to come up with solutions as they have been, and it would take sometime to get it done...and we all can benefit to it...please do not criticize them the way it was...happly jailbreak and unlock family

It is so fun to jailbreak ios's that I keep jailbreaking the iPhones I own, u know firmware updates and so on.It seems jailbreak becoming an e z way to have full access to iPhone goodies banned by apple itself.Sum champagne for christmas to the dev team!!!

Only stupid people can't answer simple questions. (you, for example)@Francesco if this is a jailbreak similar to Jailbreak.me or limera1n, then no, but if it is a process that requires you to create a custom firmware, then yes. You will have to restore your iPhone/iTouch with that custom firmware. That is why it's strongly recommended to backup you device before you jailbreak it, in case something goes wrong. The only way you can lose your jailbreak is if you upgrade to a newer version or restore with the original firmware.
