Apple Planning To Remove Home Button From Next Generation iPad And iPhone?
We had reported couple of days back that Apple has introduced new multitouch gestures for iPad users in iOS 4.3 to access the home screen and switch between apps.
Folks at Boy Genius Report are claiming that according to their source, Apple is planning to remove the home button from the iPhone and iPad.

I absolutely hate boy genius report. They are worthless. Remember when they said apple was going to give 25% off on black friday? BGR makes crap up all the time. Please, iphonehacks, never take what they say to be true, or to have any truth behind what they say. They suck!!!

just got a text from at&t telling me to update to 4.2 .... this is the first time i ever rcvd such text in the 2 years i've been with them.....did anyone else get this....????????

I could tell from the title that this would be a crap rumor - no chance in hell it'll ever happen. Gruber puts it a lot better, and explains what I thought from the start. The button is too important to get rid of.

How would we be able to go into recovery mode and stuff when jailbreakin and things i think its another ploy to stop people from jailbreakin there devices as the home button is quiet significant when doing these things lol

It's definitely a possibility. Mor so for the iPad then the iPhone I would say. Given the screen size. And it's probably a cool feature to. But that one and only "home" button it's pretty much iconic to apple iOS devices. And it makes for an easy to pickup and use experience to. They would have to make it idiot prove or even maybe make the Basel also touch sensitive and hide it behind it. That's also be prime for gaming on the go as it would free more of the screen for the actual games and not your dirty lil' fingers. My 2 cents.

Btw I to just got that yxt from att a few minutes ago. Never had that from AT&T in the past. Maybe they fix the issues with their location apps they had on iOS 4 and requires 4.2 to make it work? I don't have by of their apps gps/location apps. But I do have att wireles and that Mark the spot app. I am on iPhone 4 JB'ed 4.1 am not upgdating till proper untether JB for last gen devices come out.

I think for the iphone, home button is necessary. If they do decide to remove the home button then one thing they need to do is to make the screen bigger. Reason why I'm saying this is because if the future generation iphone didn't have home button but the screen size remains the same, the phone is going to look hell ugly.

wtf is this ****, im in a wheelchair with no finger movement{limited}at best, so a 5 finger pinch is fukkin useless!!!!!!!! they should make an alternative option..

If the home buttons removed then there would be large issues if the firmware has stability issues, will disable the ability to restore broken device, and put a long stop in jailbreaking.

This is the most ridicules post yet! So you can't use the iPhone with one hand? You would be forced to either have it in a cradle or use two hands. I can't believe the stuff posted here.

About friggen time. It's either that or a capacitive touch button. The amount of times the hardware button on the iPhone's goes under the wear and tear category is insane. The button is used for practically everything, it's about time they started using the touch screen a lot more, even with the gestures which would allow you to use the button a little bit less should they keep it around.
