you can do it not really a big update tho, the jailbreak has been confirmed to work on 5.0.1 so its your choice :)

So any device you would like to jailbreak, you better update soon before Apple releases iOS 5.0.2 and stops signing iOS 5.0.1

I do not have any battery issues with 5.0, I would hate to upgrade to 5.0.1 and have my 4s battery start to drain.

This is why i stopped using an iphone. My current phone is a Nexus S. why the nexus? Control, plain and simple. I'm running CR 9 (alpha of Ice Cream Sandwich - and it's about 98% of the way there)Also, the Nexus doesn't come loaded with EOM crap-ware.My wife just had my "official" vodaphone device (a no longer used 3GS) upgraded to the galaxy S II which, also, sits unused after spending a day trying to replace the steaming pile that Voda+Samsung dump on the phone. What a mess. Sure, the huge screen is gorgeous. But it simply doesn't make up for the software, which is proving very difficult to replace. If i wanted *that*, i'd still be using an iPhone. Also, the audio situation in the S II is beyond belief. Points to a really bad QA process.

Yup. I agree with everyone this is excellent news. One point of concern though. I.O.S 5 is still causing users some issues that apple haven't fixed yet. Hopefully the Dev teams have found quit a few new exploits because by the time I.O.S. 5.1 gets out of beta (still those darn battery issues apparently Grrr.) I'm pretty sure this exploit will have been patched and the Dev teams will find themselves back at square 1.Just remember what happened to the exploits that worked for the 5.0 betas folks. I'd love to see I.O.S. 5.x.x untethered but most of all I'd like to see it issue free and untethered. The sensible amongst us are prepared to wait. Just ignore those who aren't.So Dev teams. I appreciate all your efforts. Without it I'd have an over-priced "Designer" paperweight. Please, Please! keep a lid on it till a stable, or at least no major issues, I.O.S. is released. Unless it's a boot-rom exploit. In which case extend a middle digit salute to Apple and share away.

So does this mark the possibility of an iPhone 4 on iOS 5 unlock being released soon? Hopefully? I'm being patient with this and don't really need the unlock till Feb but still it would be great to know progress on it!

My questions are1. would i be able to untheter a tethered phone, or would i need to have a fresh install for the untether?2.When 5.0.2 came out, would i be able to restore to 5.0.1? or no hope?

Uhhhhh.....you can either restore now to get rid of the jailbreak while apple is still signing this firmware or save shsh/ap ticket with ifaith and restore later. BUT, be careful with the second choice. It might pwn dfu loop your phone like it did to my ipod which means you might as well have the thetered jailbreakGood luck in your choice :)

Ah... Far as I know a semi tethered boot won't allow you to run cydia.
