Update on Untethered Jailbreak For iPhone 4S
iOS hacker pod2G who has confirmed that his untethered jailbreak works with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G and Apple TV running on iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1 had mentioned that he will working on an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S.
He has just published a post in which he has provided an update on the untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S. He writes:
The untether fails right now because I'm having processor cache issues.

I'm hoping we wake up on Xmas and the jailbreak is released for everyone else. I'm sure even a tethered jailbreak would be fine for the 4s users for now. Just like we have for the iPhone 4 now.

I'm sure Apple is keeping track of all this hard work hackers are going through to jailbreak idevices, they'll eventually just join in and make the next iOS be able to access Cydia directly! This is so mind numbing

i agree, im not too fuss whether its untethered or not, as long as i can jb both my iphone 4s and ipad 2.

Just so you all know................. If untethered Jailbreaks are available they won't be released until immediately after an IOS release. In this case when IOS 5.0.2 drops we may see an untethered jailbreak released within a couple days and you we don't you can continue to hope for the best after the next IOS release as the vicious hopeful loop continues. Hop, hope, wish, that's all we can ever do!!!!!!!!

I don't think SS95 is 100% correct. with the semi tether method you will still be able to power on your phone. you will still be able to use any features that go through wifi. I do not use the gevey sim, so I can't speak for it, but if it requires a jailbreak to work, then your cellular functions will not work. Basically with the semi tether you can do almost anything with your phone that doesn't require a jailbreak. I have been using semi tether for sometime now. At one point I didn't even realize I had rebooted for a couple days until I went to run iCloud. It did not work, but everything else was working fine.

If its a hardware exploit then the version won't matter. Apple won't be able to do anything about it till they release the next device.

Question: if i upgrade to 5.0.1 and use the tethered JB, what happens when the untethered JB comes out? Would i just use it on a reboot and it will automatically untether me?

not reboot, but re-jailbreak using whatever program it comes on...

Why can't the regular untethered for iphone 4, ipod touch 4g, etc come out without the 4s and ipad 2? I have to wait for a jailbreak thats already been confirmed but being held onto because the 4s and ipad 2 untether isnt working yet. Doesnt make much sense if you ask me

For those that haven't yet done so, get a copy of the iOS hackers bible/guide and find out y its taking so long and y they don't (can't) release jailbreaks. Its very informative but will prolly crush your sprit/dreams/hopes/christamas/chanukka with a pending doom like that movie by Al Gore.

I could be wrong (please correct me if I am someone) but te way I read this is that the jailbreak for the 4s and iPad 2 is seperate and independent of this jailbreak. Pod2G's just waiting to stumble upon the exact weekends he seems to know IS there, but ONLY in the A5 processor. Not holding back.

Oops. Got that backwards. The vulnerability is in the Cortex-A9, not A5... I think. I should nap. ;)
