Redns0w 0.9.10b5c: Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak Updated to Fix Crashing Issue
iPhone Dev team has released an updated version of Redns0w – Redsn0w 0.9.10b5c to fix some bugs.
Please note that Redsn0w and Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether jailbreak supports iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G and Absinthe jailbreak and the Redsn0w CLI tool supports iPhone 4S and iPad 2. So this update is not meant for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users.
iPhone Dev team has provided the following information on their blog about the latest version:

Iphonehack, when will u blog about this new sim from GPP that unlocks the iPhone 4s? Would love to see ur feedback on this.
-
when are we going to get a unlock for the iphone 4 5.0.1 been months now.
-
None of the untethered builds have ever worked for me.About halfway through "uploading the second stage" my iphone 4(with 5.0.1) will just reboot. That's it nothing ever happens. Anyone else?
-
Do I just run this over the old jailbreak or is there something special I need to do
-
Never , yes NEVER.
-
So, we're currently going to continue to let the iPhone 4s crash??
-
Try a different computer; when this happens to me I'll try it twice to be sure and then switch to a different one, then all is good.
-
Oh, and restore first to reduce the equation.
-
Do I just run this over the old jailbreak?
-
Yes me too !

You don't need to rerun Redsn0w if you've already jailbroken your iOS device.
-
No, you don't need to rerun Redsn0w if you've already jailbroken your iOS device.

I'm a little confused by the "update" statement and yours as well. I would assume that everyone who downloaded the previous version of Redsnow successfully jailbroke their iphone. Why wouldn't everyone need to download this latest version. If by "successful" you mean the phone never reboots, then I understand that. And actually, my phone does randomly reboot about once per day. So should I use this update?
-
The latest version fixes issue with the jailbreak process rather than improving the stability of a successfully jailbroken iOS device, which is the reason you don't need to rerun Redsn0w. This update is for those users who had problems successfully jailbreaking their OS device due to the bugs in the jailbreaking process.Hope it clarifies.

Alright, this is getting abit cocky!..... So basically what r u trying to say is that u don't need to re-jailbreak if u have already jailbroken with the older version of red snow. & this version of red snow is only meant for the new jailbreaker. Am I right to say that...?
-
*And, if u r facing any problem with the current os jailbreak, u can restore back n trying it out with this new version...?
-
This update fixes bugs in the jailbreak process, it does not improve the stability of the jailbreak. So you can definitely try, but there is no guarantee this update fixes the issue you're facing.
-
Clear as mud....I guess. So even if I have some issues with random rebooting of my phone, this update won't correct that?
-
Ah, that's much clearer than your original reply to me.Must just need another cup of coffee.
-
Unlikely

The problem is probably coming from a recent install through cydia that might be buggy. Uninstall last few items that you got from cydia then install them again one at a time, testing your phone each time. If the problem reoccurs then it is likely to be whichever item you installed last, so just remove again and dont use until perhaps it has had an update to fix the issue. Works for me everytime i have a buggy cydia install. Good luck!!

If ur phone is real buggy can't see why u shouldn't restore to factory setting then jailbreak again... I downloaded an app that wasn't ready for ios5 caused me many headaches make sure the apps are compatable even if u paid for them before check before u load them

i have an iPhone 4s, jailbroken by Absinthe on Mac. Had been running pretty smoothly, but as of late, am getting A LOT of Springboard "crashes" and lockups, requiring rebooting the phone.....also having issues with pictures in the phone contacts not matching up correctly...currently running the G.O.C. HD theme....any help would be appreciated.

If you restore it will work fine ( dont resync until you jailbreak). Had the same problem

I found 100% of my crashes related to a tweak I installed.Best way to troubleshoot this is to disable mobile substrates that were recently installed with a tweak. This is the only true way of disabling a tweak without uninstalling it: turning it off in settings (if available) isn't good enough. Mobile Substrates enabling/disabling can be found in SBSettings (more section) or Sprintomize 2 - both work well for me.Good luck!

will it fix ibooks? my prev. version won't let me open ibooks w/o crashing....
-
i used this by accident my jailbreak using previous version was fine...now i get stuck at the very end in restore. i have an iphone 4 on ios5.0.1. my bad for not reading i dont need it...can anyone help me?

So this update will make it so it won't crash an keep making my phone go into safe mode all the time when I am doing things with it or will it still do this problem?
