How to Downgrade iPhone 4S on iOS 5.1 / iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 5.0.1 Using Redsn0w
While we wait for pod2g to release his untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, Dev team has released a new version of Redsn0w (0.9.11b1) that allows iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users to downgrade their iOS device to iOS 5.0.1 so that they can use the Absinthe jailbreak to jailbreak their device.
This is a step-by-step guide for users to downgrade their iPhone 4S on iOS 5.1 or iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 5.0.1.
Some important points before we proceed:

I am guessing that the iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore is not supported??
-
dev team way to go most of us were waiting for this extra feature. thanks for sharing it
-
Thank you

Kinda pointless since pod2G is making his user friendly program for 5.1/5.1.1 now that is compatible for all devices. It should be out in 2 weeks probably give or take a week.

Correct 9A406 didn't work for me
-
Awesome man it worked and still unlocked...But will update and jailbreak 5.1.1 and save that shsh blobs for the future well done Musclenerd :) plus the 4S jailbreak on redsn0w is way quicker than absinthe and CLI on windows
-
i jailbreaked my 4s on 5.0.1 before, but didnt save my ssh blobs, can i downgrade?
-
Why would u downgrade when the JB will work on 5.1.1/5.1
-
On Windows, anyone else getting hung at "Fetching current baseband?"
-
Tiny umbrella is what u need for 4 dudes

I successfully downgraded my 4S and all but when I try to restore from my backup of my 4S when it was on ios 5.1 to it now on 5.0.1 it tells me my software version is too old in itunes? How do i restore from my back up? someone please help :(
-
I had that same problem dude. Youre gonna want to navigate to where your backup files are stored on your computer (if you can't find them, just do a google search for how to). The folders are hidden so make sure that all of the hide folders options in control panel are unchecked. Then, simply open the file of your more recent backup and locate the plist info file at the very bottom of the file. Then, open the plist file with a plist editor and just change the build number to 9A405 firmware to 5.0.1. Then, close itunes and reopen it and try the restore again. It worked like a charm for me. Hope it helps

iPhonehacks, Will this process save my current baseband on iOS 5.1 or upgrade it? Thanks in advance
-
Pointless? we can downgrade now with out the use of crappy iTunes n having errors!!
-
Chris, you are a real hero.. done this step and restore worked like charm for me as well.Thank you!
-
when ever u jailbreak ur device and open cydia it automatically saves ur blobs. so the answer to ur question is yes u can downgrade.

I have never JB my 4S, which is currently at 5.1. I am unable to proceed with step 10 as both buttons to retrieve 5.0.1 SHSH blobs are grayed out. Does this mean I cannot downgrade to 5.0.1?
-
restore failed no matter how i do. DFU mode correct. 5.01 n 5.11 firmware correct. tried local blobs n remote blobs failed. even tried tinyumbrella. Need advice here. Thanks.
-
i do. i'm also stuck at fetching current baseband files
-
Not sure if this will help you since I'm doing this (at the moment) on my mac, but I quit out and started the whole process over and this time the buttons weren't greyed out.

Failed to restore at "Waiting for NAND"ip4S on IOS 5.1.1
-
man i tried but it didnt i guess i had 9a406 thats why tiny umbrella didnt saved my blolbs it only saves them for 5.1 i need 5.0.1
-
hey i have done every right, it loads and my phone shows the progress bar for the first time, when the second progress bar comes up to downgrade it to 5.0.1 it always fails there? i don't see what I am doing wrong? any idea's?
-
It worked Great loved it i am soo happy yaahoooooooooooooooooooooo......... worked with my iphone 4S
-
Does it erase all your stuff?
-
Worked flawless for me (iPhone 4S with iOS 5.1). The only downside is that iTunes doesn't allow me to restore my latest backup. It says that my current iPhone software is too old.Anyway, I have restored it to an older (5.0.1) backup and all done!

how did this even work? i am stuck with no clue what to do?! :(
