Here’s The List of iOS 6 Features That Are Not Available On Older iOS Devices
While the original iPad, and the iPod touch 3rd gen won't be getting the iOS 6 software update, the older iOS devices that are compatible with iOS 6 won't ...

It's a shame not making the same upgrades for every device ! And i really miss Siri on iPad 2 !
-
Don't you people get it by now? Apple forces you to upgrade your device by omitting features from each iOS upgrade. And, to add insult to injury, new iOS updates usually slow down your old device to the point of wanting to bang your head against the wall...which also makes you want to upgrade. It's a very carefully planned out tactic to keep Apple making money. Apple is not your friend, they don't care if your old device is supported when they know you'll throw down $200-$400 on a new device if they can make you do it.

״Apple typically does this to ensure that the OS is speedy enough on older hardware״ ***LIE***
apple wants you to buy new devices!! -
Is that not what they are in business for.... To make money?
-
It seems reasonable when you consider how android users are treated ... 93% of the users still can't get Android 4.0 even after almost 9 months.
-
And not to mention how users will crib if things work slow on their older devices ..
-
Would you rather have something that is so slow and sluggish that it's a huge headache or not have it at all. I personally would just rather not have it. And everybody here knows that devices get older and can't keep up. That's just the way it is.
-

Exactly! My point is that nobody should say the new features are "incompatible", it's either:
1. Apple wants you to upgrade to they make more money
2. The new feature will be too slow on your old device (still compatible, just slow)
Siri is definitely compatible with the iPhone 4 (non-S version) for instance. Jailbreakers proved that with Spire. But, Apple wants iPhone 4 users to upgrade to iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, so they won't port it to iPhone 4.
Most of the time, I think it's just Apple wanting more money, which is their job as a company.

I have a feeling that Apple gave the 3GS iOS 6 simply to embarrass Google. They know that the headlines would be three year old phone receives update, and not that the update strips many features.
Theories aside, an OS is much more than just these few features. There are a huge amount of new APIs built in which make life easy for app devs, which in turn produce better apps. The OS upgrade ensures that most of these apps (not requiring specific hardware features) would be compatible with a three year old device.

Does whoever wrote this article realize that the 3GS has no front facing camera!

@HiTekkSteff Oops! Thanks for pointing it out ... it's fixed!
-
No problem... that was quick lol.

Correction, the iPhone 4 DOES have turn-by-turn navigation, is just that since there is no Siri to speak that out loud you have to actually "read" the signs as they get updated automatically. How do I know? Well, I have an iPhone 4 with iOS6 and the turn-by-turn directions feature guided me home from work just now.
-
When they introduced iOS5, they said that Siri wouldn't work on the iPhone 4. It looks like all of the features in iOS6 will work on the 4S. I wonder what the next iPhone will have that will make it any better than the 4S.
-
I will keep using the Map Quest 4 app, it is Free, for the turn by turn on my 3GS.

Still not fixed here:
"any of these omissions are pretty surprising, especially the lack of offline Reading List. The feature doesn’t demand for a lot of resources (loads of read it later apps support the device), so why leave it out? Same goes with the lack of VIP and Flagged lists enhancements, a few, simple additions to a table view shouldn’t really be that hard to achieve or even FaceTime over cellular network."

İ think the worst thing is Apple is deciding on my own what to do with my iphone. Thats why i have been jailbreaking my iphone since 2008. İ still use my 3GS, happy with it and i might upgrade it this year. But still my old one will be operational. Shall i decide to turn it on or off of an application which is slowing down my iphone? İ pay for the thing and still someone else is deciding what to do with it.

Well, of course apple is on this to make money, like every company out there. Please remember that in wwdc 2011 when ios5 was previewed, apple didnt say a word about Siri. It was during iPhone 4s presentation that Siri was shown for the first time. So we can expect a brand new feature in ios6 for the new iPhone. Of course, that one won't be available for 4s or earlier...

According to Apple's iOS 6 preview page, FaceTime over cellular is only supported on the iPhone 4S and new iPad. It's not available on the iPhone 4 or iPad 2, so your page is wrong.
http://www.apple.com/ios/ios6/
"FaceTime over a cellular network requires iPhone 4S or iPad (3rd generation) with cellular data capability. Carrier data charges may apply. FaceTime is not available in all countries." -
Fragmentation, Apple just revolutionized that. Now they will sue Android for it. Our updates may take time to get here, but at least they do. Unlucky suckers who bought ipad 1s.
-
Maybe some rom dev will port iOS 6 to the ipad. Wait, iDevices cant do that.

Your so wrong on that last note about compatability

FaceTime over a cellular network requires iPhone 4 or later, or iPad 2 or later with cellular data capability. Carrier data charges may apply. FaceTime is not available in all countries.
read point number 4 on that same page all the way down the bottom.
-
Bakachin you are quite confused. it says 4s or ipad 3. read that again. Fragmentation at its best.

@Mike thanks for pointing it out ... we've updated the article
-
I did not expect to upgrade my 3GS to iOS 6. It's getting slow enough as it is now with 5.1.1. It's like putting Windows 8 on a Pentium 4 processor PC. I'll be downgrading to 4.3.3 soon.
-
In this article under iPhone 4 it said that iPhone 4 will get no FaceTime over cellular network, but in the phone chart it state that iPhone 4 will get FaceTime over cellular network.
So which is it? -
I will always wait for the S version of iPhones as we can see iPhone 3Gs is still going strong im sure iphone 4s will follow so I guess I'll be upgrading till 2013
-
Only having my first iPhone a few months, this is the first update I've paid attention to. I have to say I'm really disappointed. I can't believe they haven't borrowed even the most basic and simple jailbreak tweaks.
I bet when they finally add a live weather icon, it'll be in iOS 10 and be seen as groundbreaking. ;)
Sure, I'll update, but not until there's a working jb, too much to lose and not much to gain by going back to the stock iOS -
Well, couldn't say...But just to make some guesses:Well, of course apple is on this to make money, like every company out there. - iPhone5 will implement NFC, and Passbook (or a new different app) will be an advanced eWallet
- Peer to peer info (pictures, etc.) sharing between iPhones via NFC
- Augmented reality navigation in Maps app.
