I'm a little confused about blackra1n. I'm new to the unlocking the iphone so go easy on me! If blackra1n does not allow you to unlock your iphone then what is the purpose of it? Why would i use blackra1n to upgrade my iphone if it was locked and I'm using it with AT&T?
I just purchased an iPhone 3GS and I am looking for a good tool to unlock it and to allow me to upgrade to OS 3.1.2 if possible or at least 3.1.x. Anyone has any idea on where I can go to get such tool?

Blackra1n will allow you to jailbreak your iPhone so that you can install jailbreak iPhone apps that are available on Cydia on your iPhone which are not available on Apple's iPhone app store.
