iPhone Dev Team released PwnageTool 4.0 yesterday, which made it possible for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) users to update and jailbreak their iPhone with iOS 4. But it’s available only for Mac users. So if Windows users are feeling left out, we’ve some good news for you....

I'm still not 100% sure what bootrom I have but I didn't use Spirit on my 3GS. No tether necessary either so I think I should be able to Jailbreak without a problem. Can't wait!

No it won't work if you have jailbroken your iPhone using Spirit.

That's what I want to know. There is all this talk of not being able to jailbreak if you used spirit before, why is that? I have used pwnage tool, redsnow, blackra1n, and spirit all to jailbreak my iphone 3G at somepoint with spirit being the most recent.
What if I do a clean upgrade to 4.0, then use sn0wbreeze? -

I'd assume it depends on your bootrom version. If it's new then you're out of luck.

ok i am lost, here is what i have done so far my iphone 3GS had 3.1.3 and i used the Spirit jailbreak. when 4.0 came out i did a clean install . is there anything out there or anything coming out to jailbreak my iphgone 3gs that used to be jailbroken via Spirit . yes or no and please explain. i am a computer geek and i have gotten to the point where i am lost .

Can someone PLEASE clarify this: I updated to 3.13...used Spirit to jailbreak. Updated my baseband to 5.12. Then I DOWNGRADED to 3.12. Jailbreak with Blackra1n - baseband STILL on 5.12. It's an OLD bootrom - no tethered jailbreak ever needed.
So because I've jailbroken once before using Spirit - does this mean I can't use this when it's released???? Or since I'm currently on 3.12 - jailbroke with blackra1n, but with baseband upgraded to 5.12...I'm out of luck?
Again - what I have now: 3.12 - blackra1n - 5.12 baseband...

I'm with everyone else, been using spirit since got my iphone 3gs upgrade with new baseband can anybody explain why spirit is gonna screw up a new jailbreak i thought if i do a itunes restore it wipes it off?

I have a iPhone 3g and installed the latest ios4 from felixbruns website via iTunes then I used Pwnagetool 4.0 to jailbreak. Make sure you DFU via Pwnagetool 4.0. then via Cydia I unlocked using ultrasn0w 0.93. Thats it. Works fine.

The dev team is working on fix for your situation. Currently right now because you used Spirit to jailbreak 3.1.3, you can not update to 4.0 and rejailbreak. The problem is the exploit used in Spirit has already been patched with the new iOS4. So they have to find a work around for it. Sit tight, it shouldn't be too long.

The short answer is "NO". Sorry. As of this moment only iPhone 3GS (old bootrom and already jailbroken on 3.1.2), iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (non MC model) are the only models that have been confirmed.

Thanks for that explanation. I couldn't find anywhere why the Spirit jailbreak was restricting us.
What I don't understand from what yous said is that pwnagetool and sn0wbreeze require the phone to be jailbroken when deployed. Don't these tools "do" the jailbreaking? -
Can't I just restore my itouch to original settings and the update/rejailbreak on iOS4?

My 3gs ready jailbreaked with spirit so if I rejaibreak with snowrbrease again can I update to ios 4? Is it work with that way ? Pls help
