I have a 3GS, jailbroken with Spirit. I'm on version 3.1.3, 05.12.01 firmware. My serial # is 86937***3**. I read somewhere that you can tell what bootrom I have using the #s that are in the serial number. Can someone help me figure that out? I am wanting to jailbreak & unlock as soon as possible but I have no clue if i'm already on the new bootrom or still on the old. the stars are only replacing letters. Thanks!

everyone needs to know: dont update until devteam has a jailbreak for ios4. otherwise you can't jailbreak until they release a new jailbreak.

ok I need help. I have a 32GB 3gs, unlocked with black ra1n.
Bootrom: 359.3.2
Firmware: 3.1.2 (7D11)
Modem: 05.11.07Never jailbroken with spirit.
Have access to mac and pc.
Need to stay unlocked if possible. Want 4.0
What backup or status do I need to get the phone into before I start? I also have another phone the same that has never been unboxed and arrived the same day.Im confident enough to follow a tutorial, just need to know what state I need to be in before I start

HERE IS HOW I JAILBROKE AND UNLOCKED MY 3G WITH 4.OI UPGRADED TO 4.0 THROUGH ITUNES, THEN DOWNLOADED redsn0w 0.9.5b5-2, AND I DOWNLOADED ANOTHE COPY OF iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore BECAUSE redsn0w WOULDN'T TAKE THE COPY THAT ITUNES DOWNLOADED. JUST WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS AND FOLLOWED THE STEPS, AND WHITHIN MINUTES I HAD A JAILBROKEN 3G RUNNING 4.0 WITH WALLPAPERS AND MULTYTASKING. AFTER THAT I DOWNLOADED ultrasn0w THROUGH CYDIA AND UNLOCKED MY IPHONE 3G!!!!
don't be afraid to upgrade your software, the latest redsn0w would jailbreake the latest ios 4 and modem firmware.

+ will upgrading to 4.0 through itunes update the bootrom?? -
i'm not sure about 3gs since I only have a 3g, but i don't see why wouldn't it work. And the bootrom might be updated, I did all of this with an iphone that i'm no longer using (i'm using and HD2) but if it does update your bootrom, you can still use the latest version of ultrasn0w to unlock your iphone again.
