my iphone 3gs 16gb also has signal strength issues when its being held something i never noticed till now.i have to believe the reason for these reports is due to all the possible problems that its been put under a microscope. i also have news about the best buy iphone 4 launch.

I was sitting on the toilet at work, playing Angry Birds on my new iphone 4, when I dropped it. After I fished it out, I noticed the screen was discolored a yellow/brown and it had no bars...

Hey guys, I think it's a battery saving feature. The phone senses when you're holding it, and knows that you're not making a call. It then diminishes allowing you to run apps. However, if a phone call comes in, it senses the call and returns to normal... Any thoughts???
-
shut up smash!!! you apple freak, don't you see the videos ??
-
u just blew my mind
-
first iphone4 in water?
-
i really believe it can be solved by putting bumpers around the iphone...some one need to test this with bumpers around the iphone. hopefully it will work..:D
-
thts a really good idea...some one really should try it

Geohot just said this via twitter
"In Berlin where there are no Apple stores. USA in world cup! No plans for new jailbreak. Stop asking."

Sad day!!

I'm glad i didn't get the iphone 4 and don't plan on getting it because of the fact that every time apple releases the new product there WILL always be a problem that some people face. So I guess I'll be sticking with my iphone 3G S, and wait for the next gen. iphone (not the iphone 4).
-
im now able to replicate the issue... internet still works without a hitch.. havent tried calling.. but id imagine that still works fine too.
-
I'm fascinated by iphone 4 .
here is a "review of iphone 4"

Somethings you want to know, I guess -
I have a 3G and I have installed iOS4 JB/Ultrasn0w unlock yesterday. Everything worked perfectly first time. Setup as new phone and then sync with iTunes using backup. Are u sure you are doing things correctly?
-
Nope, that's not true. It does not short the ckt. The "whole" frame is used.
-
My 3G network wont work after updating to ios 4.0 and restoring my back up from 3.1.3 on my iPhone 3Gs, so I had to have a clean install and loose all my info to be able to connect to the Internet through 3G
-
To me it's down to the natural Resistence of the human body which levels at about 50ohms. When contacting the reciever plates by holding it, the plates become 'linked' and signal diminishes.
Apple must have found this out and quietly decided on their 'Bumpers'. So you pay $30 just to rectify a design issue, Bad Apple!!
Sticking with 3Gs methinks -
Bad Apples indeed Tim, wtf is going on?, i've got the bucks in my hand to get one, but luckily T-Mobile havent got their **** together so cash has left my little grubby mitts yet lol
Hope alls well bud? -
cash hasn't i meant, duh
-
that's why apple made bumpers.. so that part of your hand cant touch the sidings.. ahaha
-
It seems when you ground out the two different types of antenna in the bottom left side with you finger is when the bars start dropping i can cover the entire phone with my hands except the once part where it splits and get full service but as soon as i put one finger over the seam i starts dropping bars like crazy, that seam is where the bottom location in which the two different antennas split...just an observation
-
that's a "Iphone 4 mummy"

Ok, I just went into my local Orange store in the UK and tried a live one of these running an Orange sim.
There was NO loss of signal whatsover, and wi fi was off.
I asked the assistant and he was aware of this issue but said he was told it was down to AT&T, no other reason?
So if any of you are on Orange Uk and do have issues please pipe up.
Also the screen was great, no glitches whatsoever. -
is it just me, or is this article about 3 entirely different issues? (antenna, screen, random-freezing)
i couldnt find a connection anywhere between Kewlj1313's problem and 'touching the antenna'
i might misunderstand something here, but if i dont, i suggest changing the title of this post to 'general problems with the new iphone', or something.. -
Issues here to ... data speed steadily decreasing after picking up phone and holding it ... after a while no data received ... Problem resolved by putting phone on table !!!
This is not good !
-
i was gunna get one, not so sure now, might wait and see how things develop. as soon as i heard this signal thing, i thought "bumpers" no other reason, again bad bad apple for releasing it like that
-
If you read my post above, The one I tried on Orange had no signal drop or fluctuation at all, but yeah I agree I'm in two minds now, lots if negatives creeping into the equation
-
I just got mine. Definately a reception loss when putting hands around band. Bigtime! I drop to no signal at times. Walking around house ....I break
Up all the time now talking my friends say. Never had issues before. It's hardware -
I have at&t and my iphone 4 is perfect. no dents, scratches, discoloration, no signal loss...I have no complaints what so ever.
-
I have no dents, scratches discoloration or whatever. BUT i have extremele poor reception (datatraffic) when holding iphone.
And as mentioned everything is resolved by NOT holding the phone.Apart from this issue which sort of completeley disqualifies it as a productive tool it's extremely nice. Camera is just perfect !
This IS a hardware problem (not software as a lot of you seem to believe... and must be resolved ! ... not by bumpers that you have to pay for !!!)

The new massive load on the network could be contributing, I meen 600000 handsets in one day of reordering. Atts network is probably having a heart attack
