Apple Applies For Patent To Remotely Disable iPhone After Detecting Unauthorized Activity Such As Ha
U.S Copyright Office had exempted jailbreaking iPhone from the Digital Millennium Copyright Act making it legal for users in the US to jailbreak their iPhone. At that time, we had mentioned that it wouldn’t stop Apple from making it difficult to jailbreak iOS to stay ahead in the cat and...

Hello Big brother. While that would be great if it could be done ONCE it's reported lost and or stolen. The repeated wrong password, I do that all the time so will apple shut off my device 'cause I don;t use the same password for anything and sometimes forget which one uses which? (morning rant done)

I think when they say hacking attempts. they are referring to a stranger hacking into your iphone. not you Hacking as in jailbreaking your own phone. This whole post seems to be taken out of context when you read the whole patent description.
-
ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!!! Could be the downfall of the iphone...seriously!
-
Please Apple, make sure hackers has no ability to manipulate this feature. Else everything's doomed :)
-
How do you think they can differentiate between hacking your own device and someone else hacking it...
-
If you have read the post then you will notice that we have mentioned Apple's intention behind the patent:
Though the patent seems to indicate that Apple’s intention is to protect iPhone users from their device being accessed by an unauthorized user, the description of unauthorized activity has raised eyebrows especially since the patent doesn’t provide details on whether Apple or the owner of the device will have the ability to remotely disable the device. -
I dont think they can do that even if they want to because there are several issues that need to take into consideration. For one there is privacy issue which they cant breach at all. I do agree with punk poet, this is just to protect yourself against hackers and trying to your phone and their sensitive data on it.
-
Maybe so...but this is the first step. Who can tell where it will lead. If Apple or anyone else can shut down the iphone for "inappropriate user", well then its not really our phone at all.
Only in America could someone get away with this. Europe would just outlaw any such action by a third party. Americans are so brainwashed they would make excuses as to why this is "good for America".

Can you say law suit gallore. If they brick your cell phone after you legally bought it they will lose in court hands down
-
i'd sue them too, any using sbsettings there is a remote apple kill switch, turn it OFF!!
the iphone_dev team wont allow this to happen
-
apple can do what ever they what with there products. honestly unless they did this without letting anyone know theres nothing to sue about.
-
I will never buy an iPhone or apple product again if they do this. Do I hear the Android train calling??
-

I used my jailbroken unlocked iphone 3GS in OS 3.1.3,
I upgraded to iOS 4.0, but found it not that good, facetime, multitasking is too much for me, so I downgraded to OS 3.1.3 again, so far, it is the most reliable OS for iphone 3.1.3. I am not afraid of apple with my iphone 3GS in OS 3.1.3.Genuine apple products at discount price! Visit www.theAppleDeal.com

This is nothing new... it was called the Apple KillSwitch, you can turn it off in BossTool. If Apple does come out with this, jailbreakers will be able to turn it off.
