Jailbreaking iOS 5: Status Update
Apple will be finally releasing their most eagerly awaited next generation mobile operating system - iOS 5 on October 12th, which includes more than 200 new features such as iMessage, revamped notification system, PC Free, Wi-Fi Sync etc.
We take a look at the current state of jailbreaking to see if you should jailbreak your iOS device when iOS 5 is released.

Like the way you put the options for the jailbreakers to choose from. Clear and precise. As for me, I would go for the 2nd option. I like the good things from both worlds. Can't live without bitesms & lockinfo and love to see & use new features IOS5 can offer.

I'll wait for the Dev team to come out with a jailbreak. Can't deal with plugging in to a computer just for a restart. When the 4S is available to nuy out right in UK then I'll get that.
-
Thanks. Superb info

I have had a tethered jb for over 2 months and have only wanted to restart my iPhone once just to see if it made any difference. I could not notice any speed increase, why is tethered so inconvenient to everyone or am I totally missing something?
-
Have you considered that the reason no unlock solution has been released is because Apple now offers an unlocked iphone? It is possible the jailbreak innovators do not wish to antagonize Apple, who would perhaps then use more aggressive methods in dealing with them.

i have an old bootrom iphone 3gs with 04.26.08 bb and ultrasn0w didnt work on ios 5 beta 7. jb with sn0wbreeze, tried several times, theres always an error while installing ultrasn0w 1.2.3
-
I've gone for the update. The new iOS has most of the features that I was used to in a jailbreak so I'm not really missing out on much. There are a few things such as FolderEnhancer and Teatherme, but I can live without them for the time being.

Is Ultrasn0w compatible with iOS5? Am depending on ultrasn0w for carrier unlock...
-
@Kabali No. Ultrasn0w is not compatible with iOS 5 (yet). Just wait for a few days until they make It compatible with iOS 5 and then you can have your unlock.
-
This is excellent. The JB team are doing very well.
-
Thank you Deal Teams hard working.

i have preserved my BB (just in case). I experience intermittent signal issues here and there. that usually goes away by rebooting. i have no proof if it's because of baseband, but i'm sure there is something in newer versions that should make phone work better. My springboard also crashes once in a while and phone just restarts, i think because of biteSMS. so if that happens and i'm not near computer, i'm screwed.
-
if i buy a new 4S on Verizon or Sprint.will the GSM portion be unlocked? will it work in the US under AT&T/ T-mobile?????some other dual processor phones from RIM are sold unlocked….I just wondered…..

I've read everything and I'm still a bit confused. I have a jailbroken 4 running 4.3.2. I've backed up apps and ran TinyUmbrella 5.00.12. BUT I still don't understand how I can avoid freezing either the firmware or baseband when I try to upgrade to IOS 5. Baseband is 04.10.01-ICE_2_13. Doesn't Apple automatically do all that when I upgrade to 5?
-
Hey im still a bit confused as well, i have a jailbroken iphone 4 on ios 4.3.3 how would i update it to ios 5 when it is released? It isnt unlocked so that doesnt matter to me. But i want to keep all my apps as well and want it to still be jb, please help!! I really want imessenger when it comes out!! :)

How about the gevey unlock method? Can I still use my jailbroken iPhone 4 on iOS 5 with my gevey sim?
-
You're missing... your flight. If you travel and are required to turn your phone off, an untethered jailbreak becomes useless. Generally, so does you phone.
-
charming good news. just a suggestion - since Apple is selling UNLOCK Iphone now, those with LOCK Iphone, can consider selling them off and get a new UNLOCK Iphone. solve your unlocking for good. cheers!!
-
Pls i need information concerning gevey sim users before i attempt to update.
-
Not everyone is near their computer when the need arises to reboot your iDevice.
-
this work on the final ios 5 that was released today?
-
i have jailbroken my iphon 4 and i dont need to connect to a computer wen it gose off can some one tell me why this is
-

I have a 3GS on iOS4.3.5. The phone's model number points to the United Arab Emirates, yet the carrier says 'T-Mobile UK 10.0' and I'm on Virgin UK. Sorry if that's confusing, but can anyone help me out to figure wether my iphone is factory unlocked or not? When upgrading from iOS 4.1 to 4.3.5 i had no problems. If the phone is factory unlocked i'll be upgrading to iOS5. Thanks in advance!
-
I will definitely go for tethered jailbreak. Just now I am running iOS 5 GM version and I never needed to restart my iPhone. Before installing Activator, my used to reboot without any problem, but now I have to boot it tethered otherwise it stucks at Apple logo. Do you have any solution to this problem.
-
hey so would my jailbroken apps be gone if I update it to iOS 5 now?
-
can i jailbreak ios 5 tethered and then jailbreak untethered once released? i have iphone 3gs runnning 4.3.3 and it's jailbroken?
-
Yes Kevin all Cydia apps will need to be re-installed.
-
or Kevin...you can use apt backup (cydia application), backup your cydia apps, sync with your itunes and have it backup.when you upgrade/restore and re-jailbreak download apt backup and click restore, it will restore most of your "deleted" cydia apps.hope that helps
