Jailbreaking iOS 5: Status Update

or Kevin…you can use apt backup (cydia application), backup your cydia apps, sync with your itunes and have it backup.when you upgrade/restore and re-jailbreak download apt backup and click restore, it will restore most of your “deleted” cydia apps.hope that helps

Succesfully updated iOS5 untethered on my old bootroom 3GS. Redmondpie said something about letting redsn0w cook up a custom IPSW so your baseband would be preserved. Then use the custom IPSW to restore your phone via iTunes. Had a hunch it'll keep me locked after the update and it did. So I went back to redsn0w and went ahead with a standard jailbreak, it worked. But my baseband is still in ultrasn0w territory because I selected the 'iPad baseband' box in ultrasnow. Didn't go thru this comment thread so don't know if this is highlighted but none of the online guides I read so far told us about this to preserve the baseband in an ultrasn0w-able state. So now I'm just waiting for the iOS5 version of ultrasn0w and I'm good.

Just to let you know, there have been unlocked iphones since 2008 when the 3G was released in countries like Australia.Since release we have been able to buy them direct from apple unlocked (expensive, ~800 aud which was ~600 usd at the time). Also all of our mobile carriers are required to unlock phones (basically if you ask them, they can charge you but no iPhone carriers do if you are on contract). I have an iPhone 3, 3GS and 4 all bought from Optus (all near release) all unlocked officially. (the 3 and 4 were bought locked to Optus, 3GS direct unlocked from Apple). That's what regulation gets you, when you buy a product, it's yours.

Despite all the hype, iOS5's lock screen remains a totally useless picture. It really is a joke.Bring on the untethered jailbreak so I can re-install Lockinfo and make my device useful again.
-
It working perfectly fine but what about the restart issue after that... Any progress?

I JB my 3GS new boot rom iphone and reloaded all of my apps manually (xBackup not working on iOS5 yet) but it randomly rebooted two times and both times I was out and not so I was SOL and could not make calls till I got home. Once was just browsing Cydia the other was while playing Grooveshark.I can't live without my JB Apps but will have to until they get an unteathered JN :-( hopefully soon.
-
JB not JN :PIn the process now of restoring..yuk but I can't be without a phone if it unexpectedly reboots again.
-
-installing "...."-"press to reboot"-_____-
-
I hate that I can't buy a phone on contract and unlock it once I am done with the contract... What if I want to change carrier after the contract? It's total BS. Only in the US does this happen, almost everywhere else the carrier will unlock it by request 6 months into your contract.

The new MobileSubstrate and ultrasn0w 1.2.4 is already out guys and works wonderfully. Old bootroom 3GS unlockers, rejoice! Go to ultrasn0w's Twitter for some precautionary announcements tho.

Jailbroke my ipad using both software on both mac and windows. Never seemed to get Cydia running. At one stage, there was only a blank box as the icon. Strange... dare not do it on my iphone 4...
-
The cydia icon is supposed to be blank, after that just do a tethered reboot
-
The Jailbreakers are going great... I just wish they would release the untethered soon... i have been stuck on a tethered jailbreak for ages now..... Keep up the good work guys :)

Hi iphone hackers. I would like to seek for your expertise on what to do with my iphone 3gs. I use snowbreeze to preserve its BB and restore it with ios 5 and it went successfully. but during the iphone set-up, activation of iphone always failed, and im now stuck with it.Can someone help me on what to do next?
-
I did the same thing I think. I bought a jailbroken and unlocked 3gs and it was working fine for about 2 hours. Then I hooked it up to Itunes and Itunes asked if I wanted to update to the new OS. I....like a GirL said yes and now it wont' work. I'm so upset! I have been told I have to wait for the jailbreak thing to be released for download. It's been developed but not released I was told. Have you any update on this issue? All I can do is look at my pretty new Iphone.
-
Hi iPhone Hackers,I heard responses from iPhone 4 users who upgraded to iOS 5, that their devices are running pretty slow. Any updates on this guys? I would like to update to iOS 5 this weekend, but upon hearing this issues, I'm having second thoughts. Haha! Thanks a lot.

Roll on untethered jailbreak.I really miss Lockinfo.
-
Still no unteteherd JB lol

Do any of the iOS 5 jailbreaks support the gevey sim card? I'm currently overseas so I'm wondering if I can jailbreak iOS 5 and continue to use the gevey sim card. Thanks in advance!
