Chronic Dev Team: Bug Found In iOS 5 That Could Bring Untethered Jailbreak
There is finally some good news for users who want an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.
iPhone hacker pod2g of the Chronic Dev Team has just announced that he has discovered a bug in iOS 5 that could help in developing an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.
pod2g announced the discovery of the bug via the following tweet:
Hey jailbreaking friends, I've found a bug that can untether iOS 5. Don't expect a release soon, but I'm gonna work hard in it.

i thought they had 5 exploits? so they wasnt telling the truth in the first the place? i did wonder why an untether never got released... and now there actually excited they found one, well... not excited they found one but more releaved as us people thought they had 5.... good work still from the team but be honest with us from start.

Well, who said that they did not tell the truth? I think it's not that easy (and very time consuming) to release something that makes it simple to jailbreak every device. Many of us maybe would be able to make 56 steps for instance with 5 different tools needed to jailbreak a device, but many do not want that......

I'm sure it will be released, calmn down guys.. and deal with it. Once they release put your money where your mouth is and make a donation, this will help motivate further exploits in the future. Be greatful and try not to bite the hand that feeds.

tethered is because they are still relying on geohot's bottom exploit on older idevices.new devices with a5 chip are not vulnerable to this. so iOS 5 in 4s n ipad2 like me need new exploit to kick start n hopefully new bottom exploit found.

I would be curious to know whether iOS 5.01 includes an update to the bootrom for the 4s .. if so, may want to hold off on updating as there may be an exploit there that just hasn't been found yet. If found, you will always have an untether as long as you don't update the bootrom when updating to new iOS releases. I loved this when they found one for the 3gs .. and I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know

Exactly, so quit crying about it, if you can't hack it then you have no right to ****.It definitely won't get released before 5.0.1 since apple will have time to patch it. It probably won't even get released until they find away to deal with the shsh situation, cuz from past experience, we'll end up with hundredes of people goin "zomg I bricked my device and apple made an update, now I can jailbreak boohoo!"I say hold off on the release until apple releases a major update like 5.1 if the shsh situation isn't taken care of. That way everyone will be happy - most iOS bug will be fixed & jailbreakers can have a stable os.

You know, I love the Dev-Team, they do awesome work and more than deserve their donations but im slightly ticked off this year. I cant understand why they are busy working on an untethered jailbreak for old iphone devices rather then concentrating on a jailbreak for the new iphone 4S. I think old iphone users should just be happy they have a jailbreak and shut it. Who cares if its tethered. My old iphone 4 was tethered on 4.3.5 and I didnt mind at all. It was much better than having an unjailbroken 4S.....

Also if people are so concerned with a tethered JB easy way to solve it is just buy a morphie juice pack. Or better yet a morphie case. that way if your on the go and your phone is about to die you have some battery back up until you get home. Voila! tethered problem solved!

I don't think we're hitting the "main" problem of phones being jail ridden in the first place. Google has listen to people and has allowed 3rd party installation. If we ganged together it would be a jailbroken world we live in.
