Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak For iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Progress Update
Few days back in a post titled "Sandboxing difficulties" pod2G had announced that the iPhone Dev team, Chronic Dev team and iOS hacker planetbeing had joined him to figure out out a way to publicly release his untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 that relied on a developer account.
After working hard for the last few days it looks like the jailbreak gurus have made progress. It looks like Jay Freeman a.k.a saurik - founder and developer of Cydia has also joined them.

WAIT FOR 5.1 FOR GODS SAKE, I would love to JB my iPhone 4s but this might be the only vulnerability at least save it for 5.1 that way when we do finally get the JB we have everything we could need and most phones will be able to use it (new phones from apple are normally on the last major rev)

Do you think that it is easy to jailbreak, especially when Apple is learning all the possible holes from the previous jailbreaks? Give them a break. They don't charge you for the money, they release it for FREE and you donate at your own free will. I am really sad when someone gives such comments, even if it is intended to be a joke. **FREE man, they could easily charge you for it or just quit it or not release it. Don't get too cocky.

Hi Steve, it depends on how much faith you have on the JB team, if you do like me then you should update to 5.0.1 while you can but save your shsh for 4.3.3 just in case. Hope that help.

OORAH fellas. 1 question tho. I want to upgrade my 4s from 5.0 to 5.0.1 and I would like to preserve my factory baseband. 1.0.11 in case there will be a future unlock. Is this currently possible with the 4s?

I updated my iPad2 to iOS 5.0.1, like @pod2G suggested, can't wait for a jailbreak, but as mentioned above, keep hacking, but keep it for 5.1, i can wait long, i even can wait longer for it if needed :)I do miss my cydia apps and tweaks and themes i bought, but i still use them on my old iPad and iPod Touch 4
