I backed up my phone before the download and it took about 15 miunutes. The OS 4 is attempting to backup for install and it has been running now for about 3 hours so I guess it does a virgin backup on os4 install and that is why it is taking so long... oh well, all good things come to those who wait.

Hey IPHONE HACKS: you didn't answer my question from this morning..or does anybody else know if I have 3GS version 3.1.2..jail broken..can I update to IOS 4 and upgrade iTunes? Pls let me know.. Much obliged. :)
-
I have a 3GS with 3.1.2 on it. When I connect it to itunes 9.2 it tells me that 3.1.3 is available but not 4.0.
Do I have to upgrade to 3.1.3 first before I can go to 4.0?
-
Never mind I re-opened itunes and it still said 3.1.3 was available. I clicked update and it told me it would upgrade to 4.0. I cancelled and then I see itunes shows 4.0 is available.

Hi guys, so my 3G was super slow after installing the 4.0---i spent the last 3 hrs with Apple Tech support restoring the phone back to how it was at time of purchase and then re-installing all my files. The phone works great now but we lost all the text messages. Apparently in the newest version of Itunes if you rename the backup file it overwrites the backup (which contained my text messages). Is there ANY way possible to retrieve these texts?
