I'm also experiencing either error (1600) or (1604) after trying to restore from a custom restore file compiled with Pwnage V 4.01. I'm trying to JB my 3GS which has old bootrom and was previously JB'd with non-spirit method.... Blackra1n i think, was a while ago.
My iTunes is bleeding edge V 9.2 (61).
if anyone can suggest what the issue is i'd appreciate it as i'd really like to reJB my fone.Cheers Graeme

Pwnage 4.01 is the software of choice... lemme know how you go as i'm having issues getting it done with success.

Excuse me but something should be clarify. Does this tutorial works if I'm already on 4.0?? Or does it works only if my iphone is running on a previous version?

This answer makes no sense. I too am having the 1604 problem. You cannot do a regular restore without recovery mode because at this point in the process, recovery mode is the only option as far as I can tell. I am giving up on JB and restoring with 4.0.1 because I can't get past the 1604 error. Read through all the messages here and didn't find any answers.

It seem to be unlocked and has cydia, but it does not connect to iTunes. Error is unknown (0xE80000065). Help please.

My 3GS was jailbroken and opened at OS 3.2 and I updated it with iTunes and now it's 4.0.1 and locked with Firmware 05.13.04
Will this jailbreak work on my 3GS? -
