For those of you getting Error 1604 in itunes when restoring a 3G, just get iREB as mentioned above and run it. This got my 3G to where it could complete the install of 4.1 file created via sn0wbreeze to install using itunes.

hey guys i am trying to activate and jailbreak a 2g iphone 8 gig for my uncle who just needs it for basic email and text. i am using 2.0.2 and 3.1.3 is on the phone already . i downloaded the ipsw file 3.1.3 for the snowbreeze 2.0.2 to make the new ipsw it works out fine . when i go to do the restore iTunes sees my phone is in recovery mode and i try to do a restore and click shift and select the file and it starts to to its thing but juts then hangs and gives me an error 16xx error or 14xx error. what am i doing wrong

iphone causes headache,cancer and alot more diseases. why dont they just make it simple like nokia. iphone sucks. every time you get upgrade it gets locked ..for me iphone is nothing more than a piece of ****..stop useing this stupid product. get HTC. Nokia .. Blackberry. but no iphone....
i have a 3gs and upgrade it to iso 4.1 and now it is locked and i dont know how to get it unlocked. snowbreeze 2.0.1 didnt work. redsnow didnt work.....

i did unlock the phone but once install ultrasnow it make my phone can't even got any network signal...

end up i downgrade is back to 4.0.1 which can't be jailbreak anymore.... -
ultrasnow 1.1.1 is not working at all ....

I finished the process with Snowbreeze but it was still locked... when I used an AT&T sim from a friend it got unlocked and there was nothin on it ! It had only the weather app with three other apps ! No Cydia, no phone, no ipod ! nothin !

Mine is 3G 16GB, all worked fine with IREB but now i discovered the following problems:
-i cant backup or restore my backup, i got this message in itunes:"itunes could not restore the iphone "johns iphone" because a session could not be started with the i iphone"
-youtube not working.
-if ur playing a song in ipod and ur on the lock screen, i see the wallpaper instead of the album artworkplease help me fix these problems

it looks like the problem is that if you have baseband 5.12 you can't unlock it.
The bad think is that I discovered it too late!!!!! and now my phone is useless.
I hope that someone knows how to fix it soon

Have you tried downgrading to 3.1.2 by altering the host file, then jailbreaking 3.1.2 with black ra1n, then shift+restore it in itunes with cooked sn0wbreeze firmware?
This is how I bypassed the 1604 error for jailbreaking 4.0 with sn0wbreeze (you CAN just jailbreak 4.0 with jailbreakme.com, but I wanted to make custom boot/recovery logos as well, which had to be done with sn0wbreeze).
I'm wondering if it will work for 4.1 as well...
Note: Make sure you have either RecBoot, or TinyUmbrella to kick the phone out of recovery mode after restores (error 29, 1015, etc).

Ok, so I've successfully Jailbroken my 3gs on iOs 4.1 and unlocked, using the method above, and everything works EXCEPT now I cannot back up nor restore from backup my phone via iTunes.
I've already tried using a different computer, deleting old back up files, and rebooting (phone and computer). I think it might have something to do with an incompatible Cydia app? But which one??Help please!

I have a 3Gs now on 3.1.3 jb with JailbreakMe and unlocked. Did the "make my life easy" when was on 3.1.2 (now cydia say SHSH 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2). F0recast say basaband 05.12.01, bootloader 6.4, model MC132, tethered "maybe-Depends if refurbished".
This iphone has never sent back to apple for refurbishing, and i do not have a valid sim to activate in case.now the easy question: can i move to iOS4.1 and activate it and jb it and unlock it?

Iphone 3GS old boot rom, 4.01 unlocked to 4.1 unlocked. Worked like a champ!
Followed iH8sn0w instructions to the T.

One note, I needed my att original sim to get past the emergency phone call screen.

This happens often. You need to wipe your phone and when it asks to restore from backup - tell it to set up as a new phone. It's an apple flaw in the restore process and has nothing to do with the jailbreak whatsoever. This has happened to me so many times that I don't even use the restores any more. Obviously you will want to backup your contacts and any apps/photos/music prior to going with this route.
