download the firmware, a quick search on google you should find the right firmware, then open itunes, click on your ipad (presuming its already plugged in) hold shift, and click restore, and select your firmware, let it do the restore.

Great! So seems a clean restore directly from iTunes is essential.
-
THIS SOLUTION WORKS! after backup you must ERASE ALL SETTINGS,THEN RESTORE YOUR TO YOUR BACK-UP BEFORE JAILBREAKING!!! This resolves the issue!!!
-
I got the error several times before updating via itunes, then it worked perfect.

After clean installation............. IT WORKED. It didn't work with OTA. Download the IPSW file from Apple in restore your iPAD via iTunes. and you all set.
-
same goes for me

Just wanna confirm the solution given by others... If you encounter the message "hmmm something have gone wrong.... recovery complete...", RESTORE ur iPad from iTunes. It's simple, just plug ur iPad to ur Mac or PC, and click RESTORE... Choose set up as new (you can restore ur data from back up)... once the restore process is done, use absinthe to jailbreak again... everything should work now

Yes! IT WORKED on my 4S with 5.1.1!! Only after a complete recovery from itunes!NICE!!
-
It works fine! I'm using a GSM iPhone 4S and all I did was an iTunes backup, then a restore, and then a restore from backup & then run Absinthe & it worked! Easy peasy, thanks Pod2G
