Why is it a waste? Many people have 3gs 3.1.3 and 05.12.01.. Whether they upgraded or bought a new phone. 3.2 or 4.0 could be a very long time away and why wait?

How many times do people miss the warning from the Dev team & everyone else about upgrading to the "latest & greatest" firmware when it comes out? If you have an unlocked / jailbroken phone, you always wait! Hell, I'm still running 3.0.1 on my 3GS because there isn't a compelling reason to upgrade - and the tethering hack still works :-) Sure my battery meter bounces around a little, it might go a few % higher here and there, but I still get the same life out of it.
So, use this as a learning opportunity, and the next time apple releases a new firmware, wait for a hack.

Yeah wise ass what about the the people that had their jailbroken Iphone crash for one reason or another and were forced to restore with the new OS. I don't know anyone who has jailbroken that has never had to restore at least once for one reason or another (Except filthyjason apparently). It happened to me and four of my friends already and now we are all hosed until a new unlock comes down. So why don't you keep your two cents (more like 1/4 cent) to yourself unless you have something more productive and worth while than telling everyone how much smarter you are than the rest of us homo. Go Dev Team. I needs my jailbreak!

Yeah... happened to me too, just a day after I got my new phone. It just died on me... the recovery mode on all the time. I had to do itunes retore and it went into emergency mode. Somehow it managed to get back into normal mode on its own... I kept hitting on all the usual tools until it came alive! I guess I must have done some kind of Iphone CPR.

My phone crashed yesterday and yes, I did have to restore it. But, I had a copy of the 3.1.2 firmware downloaded and I restored off of that using iTunes so there you have it... after re-applying the jailbreak and unlock processes I was back up and running. Got my phone rebooted and iTunes put all my apps and everything else back for me. It's not rocket science but I would have to say, if you don't understand the full gravity of what you're doing then don't do it. Anyone who has had their unlocked iPhone crash on them has the ability to restore from a downloaded 3.1.2 firmware using iTunes. I've only been doing this iPhone stuff for a month now and even I knew that. C'mon...
