To TimW and others thinking this was a fake. Another hacker by the name of Comex has jailbroken the it3g as well and his hack has been confirmed by the devteam. Not sure why it hasn't been reprted on this site yet but you can read an article about it here:

Here's another article about the same info but I thought this one was interesting bc it mentions that the news of the safari SMS hack and geohot's jailbreak coming out the same week may have been more than a coincidence.

Hey Tim, now worries re being wrong - it takes a man to admit it, so fair play. But, where does all this leave 3.1.3 merchants like myself? Surely 3.2 is going to be for the iPad, and as far as i can ascertain its a specialist code for that unit? (meaning no camera code, larger display etc)
So if Geo's jailbreak is for that i couldn't give a hoot, its iPhone 3.1.3 that i'm interested in. Can you shed any light on this mate? I'm a tad unclear about 3.2 -

So far, all I see & hear is Hotz won't be releasing his JB till *3G iPad* comes along, unsure about Comex though but looks promising
Have heard that they're two totally different approaches but again, nothings confirmed anywhere really :-(
Also unsure of when the OS will divide into Pad & Phone, but probably work same way as ipt3/iPhone updates

I mean, just beacause Apple are shipping the iPad with 3.2 pre-installed, it doesnt mean that us iPhone users are going to get that OS if Apple have to re-jig it to accomodate the iPhones camera etc?! Maybe i'm barking up the wrong tree here, just don't make much sense..and if we don't get 3.2 then whats all the interest in Geos jailbreak?, it wont help 3.1.3 ppl like me? -

TimW, Craig and the others not willing to suck some Geo "wannabe" Hot balls - I'm with you all the way. And to Geo-whatever; Yeah man, wait some more. Why wait until the 3.2 comes out, or 4.0? Wait until 5.0, no, better yet, 6.0... or 99.0! What's the point? Apple is going to fix every hole you find anyway, that's the beauty of the contest! There are many others out there trying to find similar solutions (sponsored by Apple, btw), and when they have "your" solution, Apple is going to fix it over night. So, what's the point of waiting again...?
