I have the same problem.... Seems that you need an unlock program or physical code as well as the redsn0w jailbreak

right click on the file and goto rename. replace .zip with .ipsw

I'm having problems getting redsn0w to recognize the firmware file. I renamed it with .ispw. When I browse, I start in the pwnage folder, select "8a293_restore.ispw". I then select firmware file, and it shows "all flash" and "dfu" files. It doesn't give me the option of selecting and pressing the "next" button on the redsn0w page

You need to use ultrasn0w to unlock it

jailbroke iphone 3g to ios4, everything went fine. cydia app had white icon, so i opened cydia to fix that and it was “reorganizing” for ages, then screen went black, then went back to home screen and suddenly cydia, contacts, app store and calculator were gone, and mail icon had turned white. restored my phone but i would like to jailbreak again, anyone know what’s going on?

i downloaded the 4.02 zip and 4.0 firmware zip files but cannot see the IPSW files after unzipping. Do i do something wrong here ? Thanks

Did you ever get the phone to reboot? Mine stops at number 13 and wont reboot..tried to restart the whole method 2 times.

I first installed the whole thing to number 13 where the"reboot" just stopped, I tried turning on and off and it didn't work. So now I've restarted the whole "Jailbreak" 2 times and it still stops at "rebooting", any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Did you find out about the reboot"? Mine is as well, tried to restart the phone and the whole Jailbreak, nothing works :(

because the dev team has not made one and is not going to make a jailbreak for version 4.0.2 the only dif with this version is that you cannot use jailbreakme. I am pretty sure this is the only way. Go back to the old version. Worked for me :) Thanks guys

The jailbreaking of my 3G phone appeared to go smoothly but after rebooting it wouldn't recognise a SIM card from a different carrier (and country). Not sure why. WIFI continues to work OK.

Hey I downloaded all the necessary files once i browse for the(iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw) file is gives me a “Unable to recognize specified IPSW.” please help because me 3G was working fine till I updated it to Ios 4.02 its LOCKED now asking for a simcard with no pin lock.

Hi all. Ive got quite ineresting story ;p I tried to jailbreak my iphone due to this instruction but when I got to the step 6 itunes said that Iphone works in emergency mode and I must restore it to the stock. I did so aaaaaand... It has unlocked itself ;O Now my phone is not jailbroken but unlocked, well Im really satisfied. Can anyone explain it? wifi works and so far everything else works too but I didnt anything special actually.

Just did mine the other night. It froze for awhile, but then I reloaded it and it worked great. Then went to the unlock instructions and now I'm on T-Mobile with no problems. Thanks,

Alight need a little help. Followed the steps and I have confirmed that Cydia is now installed on my iphone. My problem is now when I put in a SIM card from another iphone, it doesnt recognize it, either states invalid Sim and shows 1 bar on the phone. lso will not conect to wifi. I have confirmed sim card works as Ive put into another Iphone(not jailbraken) and works. Any sugestions is greatly appreciated. Do I need to unlock now. If so, How do I unlock if I cant use cydia to add repo

I followed all the steps, and everything worked properly except my phone was always on "No Service".. and couldn't get it fixed.

You need to install Ultrasn0w if you want to unlock it. Redsn0w only jailbreaks your iPhone.

Change the extension to .ipsw from .zip. It should work.
